The Nursing Instructor is responsible for designing, facilitating, and evaluating student learning in classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and other educational settings within the Nursing Program. Faculty fosters an inclusive, student-centered learning environment that promotes academic excellence, professional accountability, ethical practice, and safe patient care consistent with Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) standards and Rogue Community College's mission and values.
In addition to instructional responsibilities, nursing faculty participate in student advising, curriculum development and evaluation, assessment of program outcomes, professional development, accreditation and regulatory activities, committee service, community engagement, and other college-related responsibilities that support student success and program quality.

The Dean is responsible for evaluating nursing faculty and collaborates with the Director of Nursing and Allied Health and/or Coordinator regarding faculty workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing decisions.
Examples of Duties - Essential Functions

Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the nursing program philosophy, mission, goals, student learning outcomes, and curriculum.

Collaborate in curriculum design, assessment, revision, and program evaluation to ensure alignment with OSBN regulations, accreditation standards, evidence-based practice, and workforce needs.

Contribute to the development and review of program policies related to student admission, progression, retention, remediation, and graduation.

Participate in student recruitment, selection, admission, advising, retention, and graduation activities as assigned.

Plan, deliver, facilitate, and evaluate instruction in classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and other assigned learning environments.

Develop, implement, and assess course and program learning outcomes that promote safe, competent, evidence-based nursing practice.

Foster an inclusive, equitable, and student-centered learning environment that supports engagement, critical thinking, clinical judgment, professional identity formation, and lifelong learning.

Communicate course expectations, learning outcomes, schedules, evaluation criteria, and other relevant information to students and clinical partners.

Serve as a professional role model by demonstrating ethical practice, accountability, integrity, cultural humility, collaboration, advocacy, and commitment to patient-centered care.

Directly supervise, coach, mentor, and evaluate students in laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings to ensure safe practice and achievement of course outcomes.

Provide supervision consistent with OSBN standards and clinical agency policies while students engage in patient care activities, including maintaining appropriate faculty presence in assigned clinical settings.

Facilitate student orientation, integration, professional conduct, and effective use of clinical technologies and documentation systems within healthcare agencies.

Serve as a liaison among students, faculty, and clinical partners to promote communication, collaboration, and positive learning experiences.

Conduct pre-conferences, post-conferences, debriefings, and other learning activities that support reflection, clinical reasoning, and professional growth.

Evaluate student performance using established criteria; provide timely, constructive feedback; maintain accurate records; identify performance concerns; and implement appropriate support or remediation strategies.

Assess student achievement of course and program outcomes, assign grades in accordance with college policies, and participate in recommendations for program completion and graduation.

Participate in faculty meetings, committee work, accreditation activities, regulatory reporting, assessment processes, and other institutional responsibilities that support program quality and student success.

Maintain professional competence through continuing education, scholarly and professional activities, peer review, self-assessment, and ongoing development in nursing practice, nursing education, and instructional technology.

Education: Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) required by the date of hire, or qualification under an Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) approved exception as outlined in OAR Chapter 851, Division 21 (e.g., Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) prepared nurse actively progressing toward a graduate degree in nursing)
Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse is required. Preference will be given to candidates with recent acute care medical-surgical nursing experience, experience in nursing education, clinical instruction, simulation-based learning, staff development or in-service education, and a broad clinical background that may include acute care, long-term care, community health, or other diverse healthcare settings.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
License:
- Current, unencumbered Oregon Registered Nurse license is required at the time of hire, or eligibility to obtain Oregon licensure by hire date.

Current healthcare provider-level CPR certification required.

Ability to meet clinical partner requirements, including criminal background checks, drug screening, immunization verification, and other compliance requirements as mandated by state law, regulatory agencies, or clinical placement sites.

For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
Knowledge of: Extensive knowledge of the subject area to be taught; computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, networks, the internet, spreadsheets, multi-media presentations; curriculum development; the contemporary community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and diverse student population; the role of accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act; a variety of pedagogical methods, including lecture, group activity, discussion and individual instruction to accommodate a variety of learning styles.
Ability to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues and students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; work collaboratively as a member of an academic department; demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching in the subject area; participate in curriculum and program development; participate in the student advising program and college-wide efforts to improve student retention and success; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new technologies; and demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth; and ability to supervise students on day, night or weekend shifts and to travel to clinical sites in Jackson or Josephine Counties as required. Pass a criminal background check, urine drug screen and provide proof of required immunizations and CPR as required by state law for healthcare programs.
Physical Demands of Position: The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Manual dexterity and coordination are required for more than half of the daily work period (about 60%) which is spent instructing in a lab/clinical or classroom setting or while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, telephones, and other standard office equipment. Could be on standing up to 90% of time while in clinical setting. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, lift, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials under 35 lbs. daily, 35-50 pounds occasionally, and rarely over 50 pounds, usually in the clinical lab setting, with proper safety equipment as required. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities and computer skills.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in a clinical lab/hospital environment, classroom or an office environment. The employee may be exposed to body fluids, pathogens, and hazardous materials. The noise level in the work environment is typical of most lab/hospital, classroom, and office environments, with potentially loud equipment, frequent interruptions, and background noises. Lighting is adequate. Role may include instruction in typical skills lab or classroom environment and clinical instruction or instructor oversight in a healthcare facility.
This is a Full-Time Faculty position (100%, 10 months/year) in the Nursing Department. Starting compensation will be in accordance with initial step placement per the current Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement (Download PDF reader) and the 2026-27 Full-Time Faculty Schedule. Salary placement will be based on experience and educational achievement.
