Position Overview: Reading Interventionist
The K-5 Reading Interventionist is a specialized educator dedicated to accelerating literacy outcomes for elementary students struggling with reading foundational skills, fluency, and comprehension. This role works closely with classroom teachers to analyze data, identify specific reading deficits, and deliver targeted, evidence-based tier 2 and tier 3 interventions.
Importantly, this role blends high-leverage data-driven instruction with a warm, supportive environment that reflects our school’s commitment to holistic student development and positive relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Targeted Instruction: Deliver intensive, research-based reading interventions to individuals or small groups of students (K-5) using multi-sensory and structured literacy approaches.
- Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring: Administer diagnostic assessments, track weekly or bi-weekly student progress, and use data to fluidly adjust intervention groupings and instructional focus.
- Collaborative Coaching: Partner with K-5 classroom teachers to align tier 1 core classroom instruction with intervention strategies, sharing actionable data and differentiation techniques.
- Culture & Environment: Cultivate a safe, encouraging, and growth-minded learning space. Implement classroom management strategies that align with positive, encouraging discipline models to build student confidence and resilience.
- Compliance & Communication: Maintain accurate, compliant intervention logs and progress reports for Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)/Response to Intervention (RtI) documentation and regularly communicate growth with families.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Reading, or a related field.
- Certification: Valid Florida Professional Educator Certificate in Elementary Education.
- Reading Requirement: Must hold a Florida Reading Endorsement or K-12 Reading Certification or be actively willing and able to complete all requirements to obtain this certification prior to September 30, 2026.
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of successful classroom teaching or intervention experience in an elementary setting, with a proven track record of moving the needle on student literacy growth.
- Expertise: Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading, foundational literacy development (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension), and multi-tiered systems of support.
- Soft Skills: Strong collaborative communication skills, high emotional intelligence, and a passion for fostering a nurturing learning community where every child feels capable and connected.
