Activities Director
Position Overview
Responsible for planning, organizing, directing and leading the activities programs that meet the physical, spiritual, social and intellectual needs of our residents in accordance with all laws, regulations and facility guidelines.
Basic Qualifications
Education & Certification:
Must have (or be in process of having) a state-approved Activities or Recreational Certification, CTRS, Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy or related area is preferred.
Skills & Requirements:
Must possess the ability to read, write and speak the English language; must be patient, friendly, courteous and respectful to residents in any situation, including difficult ones; must be able to make independent decisions when necessary; must have the ability to follow activity program guidelines as outlined by the facility; must be able to move frequently throughout the workday; must be licensed to drive within the current state and have a clean driving record; must be able to lift 40 lbs floor to waist; lift 20 lbs waist to shoulder; lift and carry 40 lbs; and push/pull 40 lbs.
Experience:
Minimum of two years experience with geriatrics is required; supervision and program development experience preferred. Understanding numerous dementia diagnosis, cognitive abilities, and preferences to ensure activities are appropriate, engaging, and supportive of their individual needs.
Working Conditions
Primarily works in an throughout the facility; bends, lifts, sits, stands and moves frequently throughout the shift; deals with frequent interruptions and possibly upset residents and family members; works regularly scheduled shifts with possible weekends, holidays and other hours based on resident needs; primary responsibility is service to the residents but also deals with visitors, government personnel, etc.; participates in required continuing education programs; subject to odors, falls, burns and exposure to infectious diseases, waste, etc., including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

Safety Awareness: Follows safety program guidelines; immediately reports accidents and incidents to supervisors; identifies unsafe working areas and promptly reports to supervisors; promotes safety by working as safely and efficiently as possible; consistently follows infection control and universal precautions and other guidelines; identifies and corrects or reports hazardous conditions to supervisors; understands facility emergency and evacuation protocols.

Essential J ob Duties
1. Understands the needs and preferences of all residents and builds an activities program that promotes the spiritual, physical, social and intelligential needs of each resident.
2. Recruits, selects and orients qualified team members and volunteers for the Activities Department.
3. Provides expectations and monitors performance of Activities Department staff and volunteers.
4. Provides overall supervision of the Activities Department and provides guidance to the activities staff and volunteers.
5. Oversees the planning, development, organization and delivery of quality activity programs within the facility
(including the Volunteer Program).
6. Assesses residents and completes necessary MDS and care plan activities.
7. Monitors resident behaviors, mental status and involvement in resident activities.
8. Documents resident progress, behavior, mood, etc., timely and accurately in charts.
9. Oversees the development of resident activity plans based on individual care plans.
10. Ensures that activity programs fit the individual interests and needs of the residents; encourages arts, crafts and music participation.
11. Invites and escorts residents to and from activities and events.
12. Manages Activities budget and control expenses in accordance with facility guidelines.
Other Job Duties
13. Meets and establishes a positive relationship with all new residents and family members.
14. Conducts resident council meetings and provides questions and feedback to the Administrator.
15. Partners with Social Services to coordinate approach that meets resident needs.
16. Works with public relations contacts within the community.
17. Plans, creates and distributes the monthly newsletter and calendar of events.
18. Organizes and oversees facility fund raisers.
19. Actively participates in state and local activity director programs and meetings.
20. Attends resident care plan meetings to provide feedback related to resident progress.
21. Participates in discharge planning in conjunction with the Admissions Director.
22. Keeps an attendance log for resident activities.
23. Invites and escorts residents to and from activities and events.
24. Monitors the arrangement of transportation for residents as needed; coordinates other services (i.e. barber shop).
25. Ensures events, movies, activities, parties, etc. are scheduled appropriately.
26. Visits resident rooms as necessary to promote interest in facility activity programs or to include those who are not able to attend facility activities.
27. Oversees the planning, organizing and participation of external facility events.
28. Ensures that residents have assistance with making appointments or scheduling errands.
29. Monitors availability of supplies and equipment to ensure proper use.
30. Purchases supplies for activities, arts, crafts, etc. within facility budget.
31. Develops and posts monthly activities calendar for residents, families and staff.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
