Full Job Description

Job Summary

Single physician private practice centrally located in Memphis has an immediate opening for a full-time Ophthalmic Surgical Assistant / Clinician. The ideal candidate has 1-2 years’ experience in both a clinic setting as well as the OR, and possesses a comprehensive understanding of ophthalmic procedures, patient care, and medical office operations. The candidate will provide direct patient care, assist during surgical procedures (both in-office and in the OR), and support clinical workflows for optimal patient outcomes. The successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in ophthalmic diagnostics, medical equipment operation, and uphold all confidentiality policies.

Duties

Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic patient examinations, including the use of tonometry and other diagnostic equipment (OCT, Visual Field, etc.)
Assist ophthalmologists during surgical procedures in the OR by preparing instruments, maintaining aseptic technique, and ensuring all necessary supplies are available.
Prepare patients for intravitreal injections and other office procedures (lasers, etc.)
Manage and document patient information, clinical notes, and diagnostic results within the EHR, and in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Perform intake assessments for new patients, gather medical history, and explain procedures clearly to ensure informed consent and patient understanding.
Provide exceptional patient service by addressing questions, ensuring comfort during examinations/procedures, and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
Maintain clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient privacy and uphold ethical standards within the practice.

Skills

Knowledge of ophthalmology principles and terminology, including anatomy, physiology, and common eye conditions, with an emphasis on retina.
Familiarity with aseptic techniques to maintain sterile environments during examinations, procedures, and surgeries.
Ability to perform patient workups and examinations with precision and efficiency.
Skilled in operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as tonometers and B-scans.
Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach.
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
