Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist provides day-to-day Human Resources support for National Lift Truck's Memphis location. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position assists with recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits, employee relations, leave administration, workers' compensation, HRIS administration, and general HR operations.

This is a hands-on role that works closely with employees and managers while partnering with the Director of Human Resources on more complex employee relations, investigations, compliance, and HR matters.

Essential Responsibilities

Recruiting & Onboarding

Assist with recruiting for hourly and salaried positions.
Post open positions, review applications, conduct initial candidate screenings, and coordinate interviews.
Communicate with candidates throughout the hiring process.
Coordinate background checks, pre-employment requirements, and new-hire paperwork.
Conduct new-hire orientation and assist employees with onboarding.

Payroll & HR Administration

Review employee timekeeping information and assist with payroll processing.
Process employee changes, including new hires, terminations, transfers, compensation changes, and other employee updates.
Assist employees and managers with timekeeping and payroll questions.
Maintain accurate employee information within HRIS and payroll systems.
Maintain personnel files and other required HR documentation.

Benefits

Assist employees with benefit enrollment, eligibility, qualifying life events, and general benefit questions.
Support administration of Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, STD, LTD, Life Insurance, and 401(k) programs.
Assist with annual open enrollment and employee benefit communications.
Work with the HR team and benefit providers to resolve employee benefit questions or issues.

Employee Relations

Serve as an initial HR resource for employee questions and workplace concerns.
Assist managers with attendance, policy, performance, and employee documentation.
Support the Director of Human Resources with employee relations matters and workplace investigations.
Participate in employee meetings and investigations as requested.
Escalate complex, sensitive, or high-risk employee relations matters to the Director of Human Resources.
Promote consistent application of company policies and procedures.

Leave & Workers' Compensation

Assist with administration and tracking of FMLA and other applicable leaves of absence.
Maintain leave documentation and communicate required information to employees and managers.
Assist with workers' compensation reporting, documentation, and employee follow-up.
Coordinate return-to-work documentation with the HR team.

HR Operations

Respond to routine employee HR questions and direct employees to appropriate resources.
Assist with employee communications, recognition programs, training, and engagement activities.
Prepare routine HR reports and maintain employee records.
Support HR audits and compliance documentation.
Assist the Director of Human Resources and HR team with projects and initiatives as assigned.
Provide HR administrative support to other National Lift Truck locations when needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent HR experience may be considered.
2–4 years of Human Resources experience preferred.
General knowledge of recruiting, payroll, benefits, employee relations, and HR administration.
Basic knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information appropriately.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; HRIS or payroll system experience preferred.
PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $55,000 – $60,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
