Job Title: Carpenter/Keysmith
Relocation Requirement: This position requires relocation. The employer provides transportation to and from the host nation from the employee’s point of hire in accordance with the successful candidate's offer letter.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Installs, repairs, replaces and maintains locks and locksets throughout the Embassy complex as directed by the Carpenter Shop Foreman utilizing the established work order system. Also maintains and operates the facilities operation and maintenance tool and stockroom, maintaining the inventory. Incumbent controls and issues power tools to the various shops. Assists other facilities maintenance crafts persons in the performance of such tasks as may be assigned.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Installs, repairs, and replaces and maintains locks and locksets that are not the responsibilities of others.
Cuts keys and maintains adequate supply of key blanks and all other parts, materials and supplies for the proper execution of assigned tasks.
Maintains computerized records of all key codes that are available from the DOS Facility Managers. Coordinates the duplication of Embassy keys with the Facilities Maintenance Work Order Clerk upon receipt of a proper authorized work order.
Maintains an adequate supply of padlocks and issues upon proper receipt of a properly authorized work order.
Maintains the inventory and issues power tools to the shops.
Performs maintenance and repair on power tools.
Assists other crafts personnel in the execution of assigned tasks. May work alone to execute tasks that are within the skill and expertise of the individual. These tasks may be mechanical, electrical, or of a building and trades and include but are limited to:
— Install and replace carpeting and carpet tile.
— Replace ceramic and vinyl tile and linoleum.
— Repair, build, assemble, and refurbish both residential and office furniture. May include bookcases, cabinets, shelves, chairs, tables, doors and doorframes.
— Repair, replace and secure windows, frames and screens.
— Install door bolts.
— Repair stairs treads.
— Make and install signs.
— Install doors, windows, ceiling grid and ceiling tile.
— Fabricate wall framing and install drywall.
Qualifications:
Must be 21 years of age or older, have completed secondary school or obtained a GED, and possess a valid driver’s license. Have a minimum of five years’ experience as a locksmith or have satisfactory completed a technical training course in locksmith and have 2 years’ experience as a locksmith. Graduate of a vocational/technical school with carpentry certificate or equivalent experience is required. At least five years’ experience in general carpentry is required. Training and experience with rough carpentry, finish carpentry, cabinetmaking, and furniture repair and making highly desired. An ability to utilize a PC in the execution of record keeping is required. A Top Secret clearance is required.
