Title: Child Nutrition Assistant Team Leader

Reports to (Title): Child Nutrition Team Leader
Major Functions:
To assist the Child Nutrition Team Leader in operating an efficient, safe, and customer-focused school nutrition program while
serving attractive and nutritious meals to students, faculty, and guests. The position supports daily cafeteria operations,
supervises staff in the absence of the Team Leader, and serves as a leadership development position designed to prepare
employees for future Child Nutrition Team Leader opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities may be assigned, including but not limited to:
1. All duties and responsibilities of the Child Nutrition Team Member.
2. Management:
a. Assist the Child Nutrition Team Leader in coordinating daily cafeteria operations.
b. Support and model district expectations related to professionalism, teamwork, customer service, and work
performance.
c. Assist in training and mentoring Child Nutrition Team Members.
d. Serve as acting Team Leader in the absence of the Team Leader.
e. Communicate operational concerns, staffing issues, equipment needs, and food quality concerns to the Team Leader
or supervisor.
f. Assist with implementation of district procedures, standardized practices, and Child Nutrition initiatives.
g. Participate in leadership development and training opportunities in preparation for future Team Leader
responsibilities.
3. Operation:
a. Assist with maintaining daily production records and required operational documentation.
b. Assist with food production scheduling and preparation timelines.
c. Support inventory management including receiving, storing, rotating, and tracking food and supply items.
d. Assist with monitoring meal service to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
e. Help ensure meals are prepared and served according to standardized recipes, portion sizes, and menu requirements.
4. Service:
a. Assist with monitoring serving lines and cashier procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
b. Promote a positive dining experience by interacting professionally with students, staff, and guests.
c. Involve students, staff, and community in school food service activities.
d. Utilize leftovers the following operating day per HACCP guidelines for specific products.
e. Directs, prepares, and serves meals for special functions and community activities.
5. Cleaning & Facility Care:
a. Assist with monitoring cafeteria equipment to ensure proper operation and maintenance.
b. Support daily cleaning and preventive care of assigned equipment and work areas.
c. Notify Team Leader or supervisor of repair or maintenance needs.
6. Sanitation & Safety:
a. Assures that sanitation and safety practices in all phases of the school food service operation meet established
standards.
b. Meets with Health Dept. Official biannually for inspections and corrective action(s).
c. Monitors staff for proper attire and grooming.
d. Reports facility issues and safety hazards to Child Nutrition Office immediately.
e. Ensures HACCP SOP’s are being followed appropriately.
7. Finance:
a. Assist with maintaining accurate accountability systems and records
b. Support proper handling of inventory, supplies, and food usage to minimize waste.
c. Assist with daily operational procedures related to cashiering and meal accountability.
8. Equipment:
a. Computer, email, telephone, a variety of industrial food production and service equipment, refrigeration and
hot food holding equipment, floor care and cleaning products, carts, mops, brooms, dusters, spray bottles,
and brushes.
