Job Summary

We are seeking a responsible and enthusiastic Discovery Guide/Educational and Engagement Activities Facilitator to join our team. The Discovery Guide/Educational and Engagement Activities Facilitator helps deliver educational and engagement programming that Kids Discovery Station, a children's museum in Merced, develops and delivers. Specifically, the Discovery Guide hired for this position will be part of the Discovery-on-the-Go! program, which brings science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) activities to local schools and other educational organizations. Depending on the needs of Kids Discovery Station, the new hire will also participate in other programs at the museum such as field trips, special events, etc as well as providing support for regular operations at the museum. Key competencies of this role are providing excellent customer service, working with children during educational and enrichment activities, and ensuring that KiDS delivers high-quality educational and enrichment programming. A successful candidate is expected to have great interpersonal skills, particularly as it pertains to interacting with children, to be able to balance group and individual responsibilities, to adapt to changing experiences and schedules, and to possess excellent organizational skills.

The position involves traveling to various locations in Merced, CA, setting up and facilitating educational stations, and interacting directly with children in a fun, dynamic learning environment. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from sites is required.

The hours for this position are set; please only apply if you are available Monday through Friday from 2 to 7 pm through June 2027. Hours after June are subject to change based on the available funding and programming needs.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out age-appropriate educational and enrichment activities in accordance with curriculum developed by Kids Discovery Station
Provide excellent customer service and ensure that children participating in the activities have a fun, unique and memorable experiences
Ensure all programs and activities are consistent with the educational philosophy and mission of the museum
Ensure the safety and well-being of programs participants
Work together as a team with other staff members to ensure that museum programming is high quality and the museum is a clean, inviting and friendly place that guests appreciate

Qualifications:

Prior experience working with children in a classroom, after-school, or educational setting is preferred.
A background in education, child development, or a related field is a plus.
Strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to engage children in active learning.
Ability to lead physical activities and work in an outdoor setting if needed.
Able to lift up to 25 lbs.
A valid driver’s license is required, as travel within Merced will be necessary.
The ability to communicate in both English and Spanish is a plus.
A commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment that supports all learners.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple programs simultaneously.
Must have reliable transportation.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
