Full Job Description

Position Summary

Shift Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing a team of forensic phlebotomists during the assigned shift, ensuring the efficient and accurate collection of biological samples (e.g., blood, urine) in various field settings such as jails, hospitals, and legal offices. This role requires a strong understanding of forensic protocols, chain of custody, and exceptional communication and leadership skills. The successful candidate will maintain a high standard of quality, compliance, and team performance, while also actively participating in phlebotomy duties.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Support:

Directly provide support and mentor a team of forensic mobile phlebotomists for the shift you are working.
Schedule and coordinate team assignments if an influx of calls come in for certain counties and lunch breaks, ensuring adequate coverage and timely response to requests.
Serve as the primary back-up phlebotomist for any missed draws, or additional support during your shift.
Coordinate coverage for call outs during that shift. (reaching out to staff for coverage)
Provide ongoing training, performance feedback, and support to team members as needed and/or directed by supervisor.
Communicate updates, best practices and challenges to Supervisors.
Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.

Operational Oversight:

Ensure all sample collections adhere to established forensic protocols, chain of custody procedures, and relevant legal regulations.
Oversee the proper documentation and labeling of all collected samples.
Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper calibration.
Troubleshoot operational issues and implement solutions to maintain efficiency.
Participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Forensic Phlebotomy Duties:

Handle biological samples in accordance with chain of custody requirements to ensure sample integrity.
Perform venipuncture and other sample collection procedures accurately and safely in diverse environments.
Respond to any and all SART call requests that are received during your shift
Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection control measures.
Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Document all collection activities meticulously, including patient identification, time of collection, and any unusual circumstances.

Communication & Collaboration:

Liaise effectively with law enforcement personnel, legal teams and medical staff.
Communicate clearly and professionally with individuals undergoing sample collection.
Prepare and submit accurate reports as required.
Collaborate with management to develop and refine operational procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.
Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program.

Certifications:

Current certification as a CPT 1.
Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a phlebotomist, with at least 1 year in a forensic or mobile phlebotomy setting preferred.
Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

Proficient in venipuncture techniques for various patient populations.
Thorough understanding of forensic sample collection protocols and chain of custody procedures.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in dynamic and sometimes challenging environments.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.
Proficiency in documentation
Availability for on-call shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Shifts: FRI, SAT, SUN

Counties serviced: Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda

Time: 7:00AM-3:00PM or 3:00PM-11:00PM

Pay: $22.01 - $24.00 per hour

Work Location: On the road
