POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a hard-working and caring candidate to start or continue their career working alongside a retina surgeon in a busy, dynamic and ethical practice that delivers high quality patient centered care. Prepare to join a small, efficient, well-oiled team that treats a variety of vitreoretinal conditions in our community, including Age-Related Macular Degeneration in an elderly population and diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachments in a broad, younger population.
The position is a combination of an ophthalmic technician, medical scribe and surgical assistant. Ophthalmic experience is required. The job entails scribing for one doctor into an easy-to-use retina focused EMR (Nextech, formerly MDIIntelleSys) as well as managing patient flow, procedure preparation (intravitreal injections, lasers, cryopexy), and ophthalmic imaging (OCT and fluorescein angiography). We will train on the Optos camera and Heidelberg OCT for those with limited experience. Basic knowledge of patient screening required.
The job will float between 3 locations (New Haven, Madison and Hamden)mostly but might be asked to go to cover the other 2 with some travel between locations. Approximately 10 weekends call per year. Salary is very competitive based on experience.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in computers and relevant software applications and practice management technology.
- Ability to achieve team goals while demonstrating organizational values and utilizing resources responsibly.
- Ability to be proactive and take initiative.
- Possession of strong organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, as well as, exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
- Exhibit high level of quality through attention to detail and monitoring of work.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
WORK ENVIROMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Work is performed in a medical office or surgery setting.
- Physical demands of position: must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, must have manual dexterity to work with ophthalmic equipment and maneuver a patient if in a wheelchair, must be able to accurately type information into EMR system, and must be able to have face to face conversation with patients and staff
- Must be able to lift 25lbs.
