Job Description Summary

Under the supervision of the physician, facility operation direct, director of nursing and in collaboration with other team members the scope technician is responsible for the maintenance and processing of all equipment not limited to gastroscopes, colonoscopes and accessories required for procedures performed at all Idaho Gastroenterology ambulatory surgical centers. This is completed in accordance with the standards set forth by SGNA, AAAHC accreditation standards, professional standards of care and Idaho Gastroenterology’s philosophy, policies and procedures.

We are currently looking for candidates with professionalism, excellent communication skills who are motivated to work among our highly specialized team of nurses and providers. This position allows for travel among our three endoscopy centers located throughout the treasure valley: downtown Boise, Meridian, and Nampa. We are a fast paced, team oriented ambulatory surgical center dedicated to providing exceptional patient care throughout their endoscopic procedures. We offer staff an exciting and rewarding work environment in the specialized field of GI with on-the-job training for the endoscopy scope technician position.

Responsibilities

1. Clean equipment and instruments used as per policy.

2. Observe universal precautions; utilizes PPE.

3. Perform daily checks on efficacy of Acecide, Dornoch, OER filters and chemicals.

4. Change Acecide, Revitalox, other chemicals, and filters at scheduled intervals.

5. Maintain logs of checks, reporting any failure of systems to supervisor.

6. Communicate a written alert of upcoming checks so another scope technician can perform if necessary.

7. Maintain HLD for manual disinfection.

8. Refer situations beyond ability or function to proper person.

9. Participate in QA/Safety Program.

10. Assist with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies.

11. Assist with housekeeping responsibilities as directed by the charge nurse or nursing staff.

12. Coordinate breaks, lunch etc. with on duty charge nurse and/or other technicians working same shift.

13. Maintain and wash equipment in designated ‘dirty’ wash area while maintaining ‘clean’ area in scope room (clean/dirty delineation).

14. Assist the physician and procedure room nurse before, during, and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures when needed.

15. Assist physician and nurse during procedure with equipment issues and additional help

such as abdomen splinting and turning patient.

16. Communicate with vendors regarding repairs and coordination of loaner equipment.

17. Use proper techniques in transporting scopes and equipment.

18. Perform monthly ATP testing.

19. Seek educational opportunities and accept responsibilities for own professional growth and development. Participate in training offered on-site, staff meetings, and other meetings as required.

20. Maintain patient right to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or within hearing range of visitors /family or patient

21. Assist in keeping endoscopy center clean, tidy and safe for patients, staff, and providers by following stands and procedures, complying with legal regulations

22. Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e. patient body fluids, disinfectant chemicals).

23. Complete yearly competency modules and training as required.

24. Demonstrate ability to operate and maintain copy machines, fax machines, and computers.

25. Maintain computer skills required to function in gGastro, Olympus Unifia, etc.

26. Utilize Microsoft Outlook email for non-patient correspondence and EMR

for patient care correspondence/documentation.

27. Demonstrate respect for IGA policies for security, privacy, and confidentiality while

using IGA equipment; Follows personnel policies contained within the IGA personnel manual

28. Immediately reports any network, hardware, or software malfunction to the IT Officer or shift supervisor.

29. Maintain flexibility with assignments; able to work in all IGA endoscopy locations when needed.

30. Maintain professionalism: approaching others in a polite and tactful manner; maintains

composure and reacts well under pressure; treats others with respect and consideration;

accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments.

31. Has the ability to adapt to changes in the work environment; manages competing

demands; able to handle frequent changes, delays or unexpected events

32. Has the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; gives and welcomes

feedback; able to build morale among staff.

33. Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned

Qualifications:

Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to succeed.

High School graduate preferred with one or more years of related work experience in Gastroenterology or endoscopy.

Maintains Basic Life Support certification

SGNA Associates Program Certification (provided by IGA after orientation)

Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 50 lbs, able to tolerate normal sitting, pulling/pushing, kneeling, stopping, bending, reaching, talking, and hearing. Must be able to tolerate standing for long periods of time. Must be able to respond to a medical emergency within 2 minutes.
