About Krewe of Red Beans
Krewe of Red Beans is a New Orleans-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit creating community through food, culture, and celebration of New Orleans’ cultural heritage. Founded in the Bywater, we are best known for organizing Feed the Front Line and Feed the Second Line during the COVID pandemic — efforts that raised over $3 million and fed thousands of healthcare workers and culture bearers.
We operate Beanlandia at 3300 Royal Street, a cultural and community center that hosts weekly music nights, community dinners, festivals, a summer youth program, and a growing membership of more than 1,000 households. Our work sits at the intersection of food, music, history, and neighborhood life.
About the Position
This is not a traditional restaurant chef position. We are also open to someone with experience running a community food program, whether from a non-profit or educational background. Most importantly, someone who is passionate about community-building and loves people! (And can learn to love the world of beans! (or already loves beans!)
The Chef leads a multi-revenue food program inside a mission-driven cultural nonprofit. You will cook for our weekly programming, build our catering business, develop wholesale and retail products, lead community dinners and cooking classes, and serve as head chef for our summer youth program.
Equal parts cook, entrepreneur, teacher, and culture worker — this role offers genuine creative ownership of the food program at one of New Orleans’ most distinctive cultural institutions. You will have the chance to build a food brand, not just run a kitchen, and to do it on a stage that already has the audience watching.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is excited by the challenge of creating something unique and new! And someone willing to venture down the “bean rabbit hole”. We want to see the world’s greatest bean dishes prepared by a passionate ambassador of the legume. Someone excited to learn new cuisines and cultures through beans.
