Full Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the financial operations of construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of both corporate and project-specific accounting principles, with an emphasis on regulatory compliance and financial reporting. The Construction Accountant will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial data, preparing reports, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making within the organization.

Responsibilities

Manage and oversee general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation
Prepare and analyze financial statements, reports, and budgets specific to construction projects
Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX regulations, and other regulatory reporting requirements
Conduct cash flow analysis, bank reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable management
Support project cost tracking and financial management using accounting software such as ComputerEase, or similar tools
Assist with auditing processes and internal controls to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
Perform tax-related tasks including tax experience related to construction or non-profit accounting as needed
Mentor junior staff or team members in technical accounting practices and financial concepts
Collaborate with project managers to interpret financial reports and provide insights for budgeting and forecasting
Maintain detailed documentation of financial transactions in accordance with regulatory standards

Requirements

Proven experience in corporate accounting with a focus on construction or project-based environments
Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and financial analysis
Familiarity with regulatory compliance including SOX regulations and securities law is preferred
Proficiency in accounting software such as ComputerEase, or similar platforms
Experience with governmental accounting, non-profit accounting (including LIHTC), or public accounting is a plus
Ability to interpret complex financial reports and perform financial statement preparation and analysis
Knowledge of tax laws related to construction projects or non-profit entities
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in account reconciliation and balance sheet management
Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform cash flow analysis and budgeting forecasts
Effective communication skills for financial report writing and interpretation
Professional certifications such as CPA or equivalent are desirable but not mandatory
