Full Job Description

Position Summary

Central Civil Construction is seeking a highly skilled Pipe Installation Diver to perform underwater construction, installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of underground utility systems, pipelines, and related structures. This position supports heavy civil construction projects.

The Pipe Installation Diver works under the supervision of the Pipe General Superintendent and Pipe Foreman while following all OSHA, and company safety requirements. Safety is the highest priority, and strict compliance with all commercial diving procedures is mandatory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform commercial diving operations in accordance with OSHA Diving Standards.
Install, repair, inspect, and remove underwater pipelines, fittings, valves, manholes, and related utility infrastructure.
Assist with underwater trenching, excavation, and backfilling operations.
Install mechanical joints, restrained joints, flanges, couplings, and specialty fittings underwater.
Perform underwater inspections of pipelines, structures, and bulkheads.
Utilize underwater hydraulic and pneumatic tools safely and effectively.
Assist crane operators and rigging crews during underwater lifting and placement operations.
Install guide wires, lifting slings, anchors, and rigging for submerged structures.
Conduct underwater measurements, surveys, and documentation.
Perform underwater cutting, welding, and burning.
Inspect underwater pipe alignments, elevations, and joint integrity.
Communicate effectively with the Dive Supervisor and topside support personnel throughout diving operations.
Perform pre-dive inspections of all diving equipment.
Maintain dive logs and assist with required project documentation.
Assist in mobilization and demobilization of dive equipment.
Participate in confined space operations when required and authorized.
Follow all lockout/tagout, confined space, excavation, and safety procedures.
Perform general construction duties when diving activities are not scheduled.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Participate in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and safety meetings.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred.
Current CPR and First Aid certification.
Ability to obtain and maintain all project-specific safety certifications.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with heavy civil construction.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
Confined Space Entry certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of diving procedures and safety standards.
Ability to read construction drawings and utility plans.
Knowledge of water, sewer, storm drainage, and force main installation.
Experience operating underwater hydraulic and pneumatic tools.
Strong understanding of rigging techniques.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work safely under changing underwater conditions.
Ability to identify hazards and stop work when unsafe conditions exist.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in varying weather and underwater conditions.
Lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
Ability to climb ladders, enter excavations, and work in confined spaces.
Ability to swim proficiently and perform extended underwater work.
Ability to work from barges, boats, docks, and marine platforms.
Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb, and work for extended periods.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including commercial diving equipment.
