Position Summary: The Manager, Curriculum and Courseware, provides strategic leadership and oversight for the governance, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of all ground training curricula and courseware programs.
This position serves as the organizational authority for curriculum management and courseware standards, ensuring training programs remain compliant with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) requirements, and organizational objectives.
The Manager establishes curriculum governance processes, training content standards, and courseware lifecycle management practices to ensure consistency, quality, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness across all ground training programs. This role leads cross-functional teams comprised of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs), Atlas University (AtlasU) personnel, operational stakeholders, and external training providers to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive training solutions.
Serving as the primary authority for ground training curriculum and courseware strategy, the Manager drives innovation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring training content aligns with operational requirements, regulatory mandates, and organizational goals. In partnership with senior training and operational leadership, this position develops long-term curriculum strategies, establishes performance metrics, and oversees the successful execution of curriculum and courseware initiatives across the enterprise.
Major Job Accountabilities:
- Lead the strategic development, governance, and continuous improvement of all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved New Hire, Recurrent, and Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) ground training curricula to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve a comprehensive classroom and Learning Management System (LMS) courseware catalog in partnership with Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs) and Atlas University (AtlasU).
- courseware catalog for all fleet types utilizing platforms such as Computerized Pilot and Aviation Training (CPaT).
- Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for curriculum and courseware modernization, ensuring alignment with operational objectives, regulatory requirements, and organizational growth initiatives.
- Serve as the enterprise authority for curriculum governance, courseware standards, approval processes, and implementation decisions across all flight operations training programs.
- Oversee the review, surveillance, and revision of ground training curriculum components, including lesson guides, briefing materials, training aids, and associated instructional content.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration and maintain strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including training vendors, airline industry partners, regulatory agencies, and academic institutions, as well as internal stakeholders such as Atlas University (AtlasU), Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs), the Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) team, Flight Operations, Inflight Services, the Safety and Regulatory Compliance (SRC) department, and the Ground Curriculum Committee (GCC).
- Own the development, maintenance, and revision of training program documentation, including updates to the Flight Operations Training Manual (FOTM), Advanced Qualification Program Manual (AQPM), and related regulatory training documents.
- Develop and maintain quarterly Distance Learning (DL) distribution schedules and tracking matrices.
- Lead and coordinate classroom and Learning Management System (LMS) courseware update projects to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, timely implementation, and compliance with operational and regulatory requirements.
- Lead curriculum-related regulatory audits, inspections, and evaluations, ensuring timely resolution of findings and ongoing compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Directly supervise Instructional Systems Designers, Curriculum Specialists, and Training Developers, including responsibility for performance management, coaching, and professional development.
- Identify opportunities to improve training efficiency, effectiveness, standardization, and learner engagement through process improvements, technology enhancements, and instructional innovation.
- Direct and prioritize Subject Matter Expert (SME) activities, deliverables, and workflow to support curriculum development, regulatory compliance, and operational initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with Instructional Systems Designers (ISDs) on all curriculum and courseware development, revisions, and enhancements.
- Partner with Atlas University (AtlasU) to ensure a high-quality, accurate, and user-friendly training experience for all end users.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Education, Instructional Design, Training and Development, Organizational Leadership, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in Flight Operations, regulatory compliance, aviation training, curriculum development, courseware management, or instructional systems design within a Part 121 airline environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional teams, complex projects, or training program initiatives.
- Advanced Qualification Program (AQP), curriculum development, or Learning Management System (LMS) certifications preferred.

- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with executives, operational leaders, regulatory agencies, and external partners.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, make independent decisions, and resolve complex issues in a dynamic operational environment.
- Strong relationship-building skills with demonstrated ability to lead collaborative efforts across multiple departments and stakeholder groups.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive operational, regulatory, and training information.
