Full Job Description

About the Role

Animal Medical Center of Miami is a new, privately-owned specialty and emergency hospital opening in the heart of Miami — a 24/7 facility built to deliver the highest standard of critical and specialty veterinary care in South Florida (surgery and Internal Medicine). We are veterinarian-founded and veterinarian-led, putting the wellbeing of our staff at the forefront of what we do.

We are seeking an experienced Practice Manager to lead day-to-day operations from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to build a team, shape a culture, and set the operational foundation for one of the region's most ambitious veterinary enterprises.

What You'll Do

Own the full operational performance of a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital, including overnight staffing coverage and shift management.
Lead, develop, and retain a multidisciplinary team of technicians, client service staff, and support personnel across all shifts.
Partner with the Medical Director and specialty veterinarians to ensure seamless clinical-operations integration.
Manage scheduling, payroll inputs, and staffing models to maintain appropriate coverage at all hours without over-extending labor costs.
Oversee compliance, safety protocols, DEA/controlled substance logs, OSHA standards, and state veterinary regulatory requirements.
Drive client experience — triage flow, communication standards, callbacks, and case follow-through in a high-acuity environment.
Manage vendor relationships, inventory, medical supplies, and equipment maintenance across a complex specialty/emergency equipment set.
Track and report key performance indicators to hospital leadership; identify and act on operational gaps.
Support pre-opening planning, including hiring, onboarding, systems setup, and SOP development.

Required Qualifications

Emergency experience: 5+ years working in an ER or 24/7 critical care environment in any clinical or technical capacity. Deep familiarity with triage protocols, high-acuity case management, overnight operations, and the pace of emergency medicine is what matters — not a prior management title in that setting.
Leadership experience: Demonstrated leadership in a management or senior technician capacity — Practice Manager, Hospital Manager, Head Technician, Lead CVT, or equivalent. This experience does not need to have been in an emergency setting.
Strong people leadership skills: The ability to motivate, develop, and hold accountable a team spanning multiple shifts and functions.
Financial and operational acumen: Experience with scheduling, budgeting, inventory controls, and KPI tracking.
Excellent communication skills with both clinical staff and client-facing interactions under high-stress conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT)
Experience in a specialty hospital environment (internal medicine, surgery, oncology, neurology, cardiology, or similar).
Prior leadership role within a specialty practice — as a department lead, specialty coordinator, or hospital manager.
Familiarity with veterinary practice management software.
Experience with new hospital openings or greenfield operational launches.

Work Environment

This is an on-site, full-time leadership role. The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends, and holidays. While the Practice Manager's schedule will primarily follow standard business hours, leadership presence during off-hours, on-call availability, and flexibility to cover operational needs across all shifts is expected.
