Full Job Description

The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism, located in South Miami, Florida, is seeking experienced Special Education Teacher specializing in Autism for our Elementary School classroom. The classroom has 12 students and 6 RBT's to assist.

The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism

The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism was founded in 1999 by Carrie Brazer, a Florida Certified, Special Education Teacher with a master's degree in Varying Exceptionalities.
Our programs consist of highly structured, consistent, cognitive & community-based instruction based solely on the Principles of Positive Discipline combined with Applied Behavior Analysis.
Our highly trained and qualified staff work closely together collaborating their efforts. Our team includes Certified special education teachers, Certified Behavioral Analysts as well as Registered Behavior Technicians. Our class sizes are small, enabling us to give each child the individual attention they deserve.
We strive to enrich the lives of children diagnosed with Autism by offering fieldtrips in the community as well as parent training.

We are a full day school serving students on the autism spectrum from early childhood through adulthood. We also provide programming after school and on Saturdays. In addition, we are open when school is closed! We have programming on Saturdays, Holidays, Teacher Workdays and during Winter, Spring and Summer breaks. Our camp offers a unique camp program for children with autism, ADHD and other developmental delays for ALL ages.

The curriculum is highly individualized, hands on, and designed to address the specific needs of each student. The prospective candidate will instruct students in academic subjects according to school curriculum and daily classes using a variety of techniques (e.g., multi-sensory, repetition, etc.) to meet the students varying needs and interests as guided by the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and plan and schedule lessons according to the daily schedule and approved curriculum.

Each classroom will have a maximum of 6:1 student to teacher ratio. Each Teacher will have 3-6 highly trained rbt (behavior assistant). The program is based on the current research and best practices in the field. Teaching strategies and reinforcement methodologies are reviewed on an ongoing basis to maximize each student's success.

Requirements:

Bachelors or Master's Degree required for teachers; AA degree and at least 3 years experience teaching special needs students for teachers’ aides.
Employees must pass all state and federally mandated criminal background checks.
Employee must meet all qualifications, training guidelines, and application requirements as determined by the Executive Program Director.
Employees must be interested in working with children diagnosed with ASD and possess the interpersonal skills to be playful, enthusiastic and bring a high level of energy into the classroom. They must be able to develop an effective rapport with parents and guardians.
Employee must be willing to work well with a team and comply with supervisory direction.

Candidate must provide 3 letters of reference and transcripts.

Florida Certified in Special Education recommended, however exceptions will be made for candidates who have degrees in other areas of education with experience in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Candidate must have 3-5 years experience working with older children/younger adults with Autism or other developmental delays.
