Job Summary
Provides leadership in managing the day to day research operations and testing of the FIU Wall of Wind (WOW) facility. The FIU Wall of Wind (WOW) facility is one of the nation's major Experimental Facilities (EFs) under the National Science Foundation (NSF) Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) Program. NSF's investment in NHERI allows researchers to explore and test ground-breaking concepts to protect homes, businesses and infrastructure lifelines, and enables innovations to help prevent natural hazards from becoming societal disasters.
- Provides leadership in managing the day to day research operations and testing of the FIU Wall of Wind (WOW) facility. Works closely with the Wall of Wind Experimental Facility (WOW EF) Co-Directors.
- Coordinates client test scheduling with EF users as per NHERI's facility scheduling protocol and in coordination with the Network Coordination Office (NCO).
- Coordinates EF user project planning, implementation, and user support services with EF staff and coordinate user training with Laboratory and EH&S Manager.
- Serves as principal program point of contact for key Industry, Federal, State and Local clients.
- Facilitates marketing activities to attract potential NSF-supported EF users. Coordinates website with the designated NHERI EF designee.
- Manages Wall of Wind client relations. Ensures that Wall of Wind projects are defined, tracked, and presented/communicated in a consistent and effective manner; communicates and explains project status to sponsors and stakeholders.
- Assists external users on NSF proposal development by providing guidance on WOW-EF pre-award testing planning and estimation of user fees/recharge rates.
- Develops the annual work plan and coordinate reports to be submitted to NSF as part of the organizational and operational responsibilities of the WOW NHERI EF.
- Supervises partners, staff, subcontractors, vendors and students as needed related to the duties. Track staffing levels against the work plan and performance metrics and facilitate the accomplishment of key deliverables and milestones within schedule and budget.
- Advises and makes recommendations on program/department goals, internal and
- external trends.
- Performs needed assessments, evaluates and analyses overall Wall of Wind program effectiveness. Implements appropriate procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy to fulfill the NHERI mission.
- Facilitates quarterly and annual reports for NHERI facility.
- Serves as the University's card user for departmental transactions. Adheres to University's credit card policies and procedures.
- Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, education, or related field and six (6) years of related work experience or Master's degree in business, education, or related field and four (4) years of related work experience.
