Recovery Navigator – (Miami, FL)

JOB TITLE: Recovery Navigator
REPORTS TO: Program Supervisor
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Non-Exempt
TIME COMMITMENT: Full-time, flexible scheduling

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Recovery Navigator (RN) is a person with a minimum of two years of lived experience in recovery who provides peer support and linkage to services for individuals incarcerated in the Miami jail system. This role focuses on individuals with behavioral health needs, including Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorders, or those at risk. The RN is responsible for assessing and assisting individuals to achieve self-sufficiency through care coordination, while supporting reentry and recovery goals.

The RN conducts recovery capital assessments, collaborates with incarcerated individuals to establish goals that promote empowerment, and connects individuals to appropriate community resources upon release. The RN works closely with jail staff and community programs to meet the needs of this population.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides navigation and peer support to incarcerated individuals, either in the jail setting or virtually as needed.
Uses effective communication skills to listen, understand, and address the concerns, barriers, and needs of participants.
Teaches and reinforces problem-solving and coping techniques.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and best practices in recovery and behavioral health.
Provides linkage to community services, benefits, and supports, including DCF services, housing, and treatment programs.
Develops and maintains relationships with community partners to ensure seamless reentry and service linkage.
Assists individuals with planning for post-release recovery and continuity of care.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Identifies with lived experience of Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorders and has an active recovery story.
Demonstrates experience in recovery-oriented practices and peer support.
Understands pathways to recovery and reentry for individuals experiencing behavioral health barriers.
Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
Ability to work under pressure in a structured and secure environment.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Skilled in computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
Knowledge of community resources and ability to link individuals to services.
Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish and English.
