BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION CONSULTANT
Non-union, at-will position
POSITION SUMMARY:
This individual will work closely with administrators and staff to address the unique needs of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include behavior consultation services, staff coaching, coordination and facilitation of state and federal grants, guidelines and procedures. As a Multi-tier System of Support is essential for meeting the needs of all students, including students with disabilities, this position will focus heavily on working with administrators and staff to develop building-level and district-wide student support systems, including Interventions with students with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with other disabilities. This individual will report to the Director of Special Education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master’s degree or higher; with approval as a special education teacher, teacher consultant, school psychologist, or school social worker in the State of Michigan

Three years of special education instruction and experiences in providing cross-county staff training and support

Preference given to a candidate qualified as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst

Demonstrate understanding of supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and those experiencing trauma and attachment disorders

Demonstrated proficiency in understanding behavior, evidence-based practices, the use of PBIS, and working with students exhibiting challenging behaviors

Experience with coordination of long-range, strategic planning

Experience with implementation of a Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS)

Competence with building interpersonal relationships, effective communication and organization

Must be able to lift 50 lbs, including pulling, pushing, bending, stooping and twisting
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with behavior teams and administrators in the continuous development, implementation and evaluation of behavioral management systems to enhance the teaching and learning of special education students

Support district staff in the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP), Emergency Intervention Plans (EIP), and Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and the provision of services for students with disabilities

Support district use of data collection forms and practices, and the importance of using data to drive decisions

Promote PBIS, Universal Design for Learning, differentiation of instruction, and the use of assistive technology to address the needs of students with disabilities

Coordination, facilitation and oversight of state and federal grants (i.e. MTSS, MiBlSi, and START)

Assist districts in addressing the needs of students with disabilities within a MTSS, including core instruction, tiered interventions, inclusive delivery models, instructional redesign, and PBIS

Provide county-wide coaching in various areas including:

Evidence-based practices

Consultative services

Building staff and administrative capacity to support students with challenging behaviors

Data collection practices

Multi-tiered Systems of Support

Ability to become a county-level trainer for Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Ukeru or other de-escalation programs

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment Date: August 1, 2026, pending approval by the Board of Education and satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug screen and criminal history checks.
Employment Type: August 1 – June 30, non-union, at-will
Salary & Fringes: $75,000 - $90,000 In accordance with RESA agreement.
