Position Summary
The Case Manager, under the supervision of the Friend of the Court Director and in accordance with Michigan statutes, court rules, and policies, supports the enforcement and management of child support, custody, and parenting time orders. This position will address concerns and investigate claims to include locating payers, collection activities, and reviews/adjustments of orders and agreements.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
· Prepares custody, parenting time and child support cases for court hearings before a referee or judge. Responsibilities include preparing referee reports, processing referee reports, attending bench warrant arraignments, and adjourning hearings.
· Manages an active caseload of approximately 500 cases, maintaining accurate documentation, tracking case progress, and ensuring timely responses and follow-ups.
· Conducts investigations and handles complaints related to custody and parenting time. Prepares and processes 21-day notices, new agreements, and court orders. Schedules and manages custody and parenting time show cause hearings.
· Maintains consistent contact with parties by responding to voicemails, emails, and phone calls in a timely and professional manner. Provides guidance and clarification regarding orders and case status.
· Monitors case activity for compliance with court orders to include payment obligations, medical support, and any changes with parties.
· Initiates, processes, and monitors income withholding orders, medical support notices, and related enforcement documents. Coordinates with employers for compliance and manages necessary follow-up.
· Coordinates felony support cases, maintains communication with clients and the Attorney General’s office, manages referrals, and monitors ongoing case developments.
· Performs daily updates and tasks using state-required systems. Maintains accurate case notes, reports, and compliance records. Locates non-compliant parties and updates system.
· Processes medical demands and prepares associated court orders. Ensures timely calendar follow-ups for pending actions.
· Performs general clerical and office duties, including data entry, document preparation, file organization, and internal/external correspondence.
· Completes quarterly training on data privacy, record security, and confidentiality standards, in alignment with Michigan FOC policies and federal privacy laws.
· Initiates and manages monthly case reviews including sending questionnaires, processing responses, and updating case records accordingly.
· Participates in staff meetings, training sessions, and other team activities to support interdepartmental coordination and ongoing professional development.
· Carries out additional responsibilities as delegated by FOC Director or the 33rd Circuit Judge to meet the needs of the office and ensure case integrity.
Mandatory Requirements
· Valid driver’s license
· High School Diploma or Equivalent
· Associate’s degree from an accredited university or 3 years of relevant Friend of the Court experience
· Ability to pass a State & Federal background check
· Ability to pass a drug test & pre-employment physical
Job Location/ Working Conditions
This position is primarily located in a climate-controlled office setting with occasional time spent in a courtroom. The role involves prolonged periods of sitting or remaining in a stationary position, as well as frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment, including but not limited to a telephone, printer, and copier. The employee may occasionally be required to lift, move, or carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds and to bend, twist, or reach as needed. Occasional travel to other County facilities or off-site training locations may be required.
