Full Job Description

Job Position Title: Fleet Manager

Job Description Summary:

The Fleet Manager is responsible for the overall management, safety, compliance, readiness, maintenance, and cost effectiveness of P&G Power Co.’s vehicle and equipment fleet. This position ensures that company-owned and leased assets are safe, properly maintained, compliant, appropriately assigned, and available to support daily utility construction operations and emergency storm response.

The Fleet Manager will oversee a diverse fleet supporting overhead distribution, transmission, and emergency restoration operations, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, pickup trucks, trailers, material-handling equipment, pullers, tensioners, and other specialized utility construction equipment.

This position requires a proactive, field-oriented manager who understands that equipment availability directly impacts crew productivity, customer commitments, safety, and profitability. The Fleet Manager is expected to develop disciplined preventive maintenance and inspection programs while maintaining the flexibility necessary to support emergency response operations. The Fleet Manager is expected to take ownership of fleet issues rather than simply coordinate repairs. Success in this position requires anticipating equipment needs, identifying problems before they disrupt operations, maintaining accurate information, controlling costs, and ensuring Operations has safe and reliable equipment when and where it is needed. During emergency restoration events, the Fleet Manager must be capable of operating with urgency, coordinating multiple vendors and locations, and making sound decisions while maintaining appropriate safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

· Maintain overall responsibility for company vehicles, trailers, and major Utility construction equipment from acquisition through disposal.

· Establish and manage preventive maintenance schedules based on manufacturer requirements, mileage, engine hours, equipment usage, and regulatory requirements.

· Ensure repairs and maintenance are completed promptly and equipment downtime is minimized.

· Maintain accurate fleet records including maintenance history, inspections, registrations, titles, warranties, recalls, and equipment assignments.

· Coordinate repairs through internal resources, dealerships, manufacturers, and third-party service vendors.

· Review repair estimates and invoices and ensure costs are reasonable and properly authorized.

· Track equipment downtime and identify recurring mechanical or reliability issues.

· Maintain fleet readiness standards so equipment is available for scheduled work and emergency mobilization.

· Coordinate vehicle and equipment transfers between operating locations and projects.

· Maintain accurate asset assignments and physical location records.

· Monitor fleet utilization and identify underutilized, overutilized, or improperly assigned assets.

· Work with Operations to forecast equipment requirements for upcoming projects.

· Support fleet planning for large-scale storm and emergency restoration events.

· Coordinate rapid inspections, repairs, servicing, and equipment preparation before mobilization.

· Establish processes for post-storm inspections and repairs before equipment returns to normal operations.

· Ensure company vehicles and equipment meet applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, state, customer, and company requirements.

· Coordinate required annual and periodic inspections.

· Partner with Safety and Operations leadership to correct equipment-related safety deficiencies.

· Ensure out-of-service equipment is clearly identified and is not returned to operation until deficiencies are properly corrected.

· Maintain appropriate documentation to support customer, regulatory, insurance, and internal audits.

· Monitor fleet operating costs including maintenance, repairs, tires, rentals, leases, and other equipment-related expenses.

· Develop and manage fleet budgets and provide leadership with regular reporting on fleet performance and expenditures.

· Evaluate repair-versus-replace decisions using equipment age, condition, maintenance history, utilization, downtime, and total cost of ownership.

· Assist leadership with vehicle and equipment purchasing, leasing, replacement, and disposal decisions.

· Manage relationships with equipment dealers, repair facilities, tire vendors, towing providers, rental companies, and other fleet vendors.

· Negotiate pricing and service expectations when appropriate and monitor vendor performance.

· Review rental equipment usage and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary rental expenses.

· Establish minimum equipment-condition and cleanliness standards.

· Coordinate accountability for company-issued vehicles and equipment with employees and field leadership.

· Investigate preventable equipment damage, misuse, neglect, or repeated maintenance issues and escalate concerns to appropriate leadership.

· Develop and maintain standardized fleet procedures, inspection requirements, and documentation.

· Provide leadership with meaningful fleet KPIs and recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications

· 5+ years of fleet, heavy equipment, transportation, construction equipment, or related management experience preferred.

· Experience managing commercial vehicles and heavy construction equipment strongly preferred.

· Utility construction, electrical construction, heavy civil, or similar field experience highly desirable.

· Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA requirements and commercial vehicle inspection and maintenance practices.

· Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, hydraulic equipment, trailers, and specialized utility equipment preferred.

· Strong understanding of preventive maintenance and equipment lifecycle management.

· Ability to review repair estimates, diagnose recurring maintenance trends, and make sound repair-versus-replacement recommendations.

· Strong organizational and documentation skills.

· Ability to manage multiple urgent priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

· Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with field employees, General Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers, Safety, Accounting, and executive leadership.

· Proficiency with fleet-management software, Microsoft Excel, and related business systems.

· Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required; CDL knowledge or experience preferred.

· Ability to travel to company yards, jobsites, vendors, and emergency response locations as necessary.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
