Full Job Description

Venture Steel is a leading North American steel service center supplying high-quality flat rolled steel products to customers across the manufacturing and automotive industries. We are committed to delivering exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and long-term partnerships with our customers.

We are currently seeking a Purchasing Coordinator to join our Detroit team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in purchasing. Whether you have 1–2 years of purchasing experience or are a recent college graduate with strong analytical and organizational skills, we'd like to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

Obtain receivers from outside processors and ensure material is received into inventory promptly.
Create shipping orders for pickups from mills, processors, and storage facilities.
Obtain proofs of delivery for direct shipments.
Submit material test requests to approved laboratories.
Enter purchase orders into SSCM.
Maintain and distribute weekly critical expedite reports for mills and communicate updates to the Sales team.
Prepare the weekly expedite list for Mexico.
Update purchase order ledgers with current and expected ready dates.
Complete weekly purchase order ledger closures.
Review mill order acknowledgments for accuracy and update mill order numbers and acknowledged delivery dates.
Distribute open requisition reports to the Sales team, including aging information.
Complete offshore inventory reconciliations after receiving.
Perform monthly processor and storage inventory reconciliations.
Maintain purchasing records and filing systems.
Provide general administrative support to the Purchasing department.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1–2 years of purchasing or supply chain experience preferred, or a recent college graduate with a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
Previous experience in a steel service center or metals distribution environment is strongly preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
