Full Job Description

Role Overview

This Wire EDM Machinist position focuses on utilizing Mastercam for programming, selecting programs, and managing the setup and operation of Sodick and Mitsubishi wire EDM equipment. Success in this role demands a high level of technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and a deep understanding of core machining principles to accurately shape metal components.

Programming in Mastercam

Demonstrate full expertise in programming and defining parameters to manufacture high-precision components with tolerances between ±0.0002 and ±0.001.

Program Selection and Setup

Analyze and interpret complex technical blueprints and specifications.
Configure and fine-tune machine settings to achieve peak operational performance.
Choose the correct wire electrodes for hole popper and Wire EDM fixtures.

Operation and Monitoring

Run wire EDM machines to fabricate parts that strictly adhere to design specifications.
Oversee the EDM machining cycle to guarantee high levels of accuracy and quality.
Detect and resolve operational issues to help maintain consistent production flow.

Inspection and Quality Control

Conduct precise measurements and quality checks on all finished parts.
Validate dimensions, clearances, and alignments using standard measuring tools.
Ensure all components satisfy the required tolerance levels and quality benchmarks.

Maintenance and Safety

Keep machinery and equipment in safe, optimal working order.
Adhere to all established safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
Maintain a tidy and organized workspace to support a safe working environment for the entire team.

Other Duties

Coordinate effectively with toolmakers, engineers, and fellow team members.
Engage in initiatives aimed at continuous process improvement.
Assist with various other machining tasks as needed to support team goals.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Between 5 and 10 years of robust experience setting up and operating wire EDM machinery.
Proficiency in working from intricate drawings that require tight tolerances.
Background in high-mix, low-volume production environments.
Ability to read and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
Competence in using various gauges and precision measuring instruments.
Must possess personal tools, including depth micrometers, calipers, and micrometers.

Organizational Relationships

You will report directly to the Operations Supervisor while maintaining a collaborative relationship with the engineering, operations, and Admin-CSR departments. This role requires regular interaction with staff members across various levels of the organization.

Physical Demands

The role involves working in a standard manufacturing setting with typical lighting, ambient temperatures, and industrial machinery. You may be required to sit, stand, or walk for long durations on level ground. Tasks involve reaching above the shoulder or below the waist and lifting materials as necessary. Proper lifting methods are essential, as you may occasionally need to lift up to 50 pounds or exert up to 150 pounds of force for pushing or pulling. The use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses with side shields, is mandatory, and hearing protection may be necessary in specific areas.
