SEEKING READING SPECIALIST FOR 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

The Hellenic Classical Charter Schools are public charter schools located in Brooklyn (HCCS-PS) and Staten Island (HCCS-SI). HCCS provides a classics based education in the study of humanities and literature for students in Pre-Kindergarten to 8th grades.

Our Mission Statement: To provide a diverse student body with a rigorous education in a dynamic environment. Using a standards-based curriculum, enriched with the Greek and Latin languages, and the classics woven throughout, students engage in dialogue using the Socratic method to become critical thinkers. Students become college and career ready and well-prepared to succeed and contribute to the global community as responsible citizens.

HCCS-Park Slope is a National Blue Ribbon School. It has been designated as a RECOGNITION and REWARD SCHOOL by the New York State Education Department and was profiled as one of NYC’s BEST Public Pre-K & Elementary Schools: A Parent’s Guide by Clara Hemphill.

The Reading Specialist will be responsible for:

Providing research-based literacy instruction to support students in kindergarten through grade five.
Delivering targeted reading intervention services to individuals and small groups of students.
Assessing student reading levels using diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to identify areas of need.
Developing and implementing individualized and small-group intervention plans to improve reading fluency, comprehension, phonics, and vocabulary.
Collaborating with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to support literacy instruction and intervention strategies.
Supporting the implementation of school-wide literacy initiatives and evidence-based reading programs.
Monitoring student progress and adjusting instructional strategies based on data and assessment results.
Creating a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters student engagement and confidence in reading.
Maintaining accurate and timely records of student progress and intervention services.
Communicating effectively with parents and staff regarding student progress and literacy goals.
Complying with School Board and Hellenic Classical Charter School policies, as outlined in the charter.
Being in compliance with all state and federal rules and regulations.
Completing all district and state reporting requirements in a timely manner.

Minimum Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in Childhood Education or related degree within the field of Education
NYS Teaching License
Fingerprint clearance
