Full Job Description

The Senior Accountant supports numerous entities across the group including African telecommunications operations, domestic real estate, and various investments with a focus on Accounting/Finance.

Specific Tasks:

3.1 Operations – 90%

3.1.1 Oversee African accounting functions across multiple countries for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness, serve as mentor to staff – 40%

3.1.2 Process higher-level functions for local offices including sales tax returns, payroll, monthly financials including P&L, balance sheet, statement of cash flows with schedules and analytics vs. budget, as well as intercompany reconciliation – 20%

3.1.3 Manage parent company and Chinese subsidiary ledgers including intercompany reconciliations – 5%

3.1.4 Catalog, track and notate any contracts including key terms, anniversary dates, and points of contact – 5%

3.1.5 Develop and maintain SOPs for process, focusing on consistency across countries – 5%

3.1.6 Partner with CFO and local heads to develop budgets by department an business unit – 5%

3.1.7 Manage finance/accounting related projects including system review, upgrades, and development – 10%

3.2 Real Estate – 10%

3.2.1 Manage financials for two domestic commercial properties including daily banking, vendor payments, tenant invoices and receivables – 5%

3.2.2 Administer tenant leases including rent escalations and bill backs – 5%

4. Qualifications and Experience

4.1 Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required, Masters in Finance or related a plus

4.2 5+ years in accounting functions with some exposure to financial analysis and reporting

4.3 Exceptional skills in Microsoft Excel

4.4 Strong knowledge of QuickBooks

4.5 Strong written and verbal communication skills

4.6 Strong organization skills, flexibility and the ability to set priorities

4.7 Work accurately with close attention to detail

4.8 Ability to read, write, and speak Portuguese a plus for Mozambiquan operations

4.9 Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

The proper candidate will have experience working remotely with as-needed direction and input from their peers. With the majority of the work happening in Africa, there is a standing 6 to 8 hour time difference making strong communication a must have to properly navigate the different culture, time zone, and expectations from various stakeholders.

While this role is remote, periodic and as-needed meetings with the CEO are beneficial to both the Employee, the CEO, and the business at large. This would be no more than weekly and likely monthly. These are designed to properly explain nuances of each business unit, review needs, and work to set the candidate up for success and growth.
