Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, and continuous improvement of precision mechanical components and assemblies. This role involves working in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure designs meet performance, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
Develop detailed drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
Perform design calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and engineering analyses
Support new product development from concept through production release
Review and interpret customer specifications, including aerospace/defense requirements
Generate and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) and engineering documentation
Work with manufacturing to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost
Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconforming products
Participate in design reviews, FMEA activities, and continuous improvement initiatives
Interface with suppliers for component development and technical support
Collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers
This role includes shop-floor collaboration and prototype validation.

Qualifications & Competencies:

Work Authorization: Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Person as defined by ITAR
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
3+ years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment
Proficiency in 3D CAD (Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)
Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
Experience creating detailed drawings and technical documentation
Familiarity with machining, fabrication, and assembly processes
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in aerospace, defense, or regulated industries (AS9100 environment)
Understanding of designs for use in explosive atmosphere per ATEX, IECEx standards
Familiarity with gears, splines, rotating equipment, or power transmission systems
Familiarity with brake and clutch systems
Knowledge of materials, heat treatment, and surface finishes
Experience with FEA tools and engineering analysis
Understanding of FAI (First Article Inspection) and quality requirements
Exposure to ERP/MRP systems
