Responsibilities:
Histotechnician
Performs, evaluates, records and reports histological laboratory tests used in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of patients on a variety of body fluids, tissues and biologic specimens. Recognizes problems and/or potential for problems within the assigned section regarding instruments, computers, and inventories. Displays sound, supportive and independent judgement to resolve issues equitably.
Histotechnologist
Performs, evaluates, records and reports histological laboratory tests used in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of patients on a variety of body fluids, tissues and biologic specimens. Recognizes problems and/or potential for problems within the assigned section regarding instruments, computers, and inventories. Displays sound, supportive and independent judgement to resolve issues in the absence of a supervisor.

The compensation range for the:
Histology technician: $46.72-$53.49
Histotechnologist: $ 55.81- $62.86
Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).
Qualifications:
Histotechnician
Minimum Education:
- Current and active license as a NYSED Certified Histotechnician OR current and active license as a NYSED Clinical Laboratory Technician
Minimum Experience:
- Experience preferred but newly NYSED Certified Histotechnician or NYSED Clinical Laboratory Technician qualified individuals considered.
Required Certification/Registration:
- ASCP preferred.

If not licensed, applicable NYSED permit required within two months of hire, applicable NYSED license required within one year of permit issuance.

Once a Permit has been obtained, candidate may verify tests/procedures in areas that competency has been completed
Physical Requirements: Walking and standing, most of the day. Reaches for, lifts and carries light to moderately heavy equipment and supplies. Visual acuity and color discrimination is required. Ability to communicate effectively and to comprehend conversation. Must have manual dexterity and hand-to-eye coordination to handle and assist with instruments, slides, test tubes and other laboratory equipment. Capable of working long hours at varied times during the day or night. Alertness required during all phases.

Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards.

Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.

Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
