Job Summary

The Front Desk Student Assistant serves as the first point of contact for students, faculty, and visitors to the Academic Advising Center. This student employee provides welcoming, professional customer service while supporting daily office operations and assisting advisors with administrative tasks. The role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Receptionist - 85
Greet and assist students, faculty, and guests in a friendly and professional manner

Provide general information about advising services, policies, and campus resources

Answer phone calls and respond to general email inquiries

Check students in for appointments and notify advisors of arrivals

Maintain organized and welcoming front desk and waiting areas

Clerical Duties - 10
Perform basic clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, copying, and data entry

Assist with event preparation, workshops, and outreach initiatives

Sort and distribute incoming mail to the appropriate departments or individuals and prepare outgoing mail for processing and delivery.

Operates basic office machines: copiers, scanners, phone and voicemail systems, computers, iPad, and other standard office equipment.

Perform errands across campus offices, including picking up and delivering items to the campus mailroom, obtaining supplies from the campus print shop, and completing deliveries or retrievals from various GCSU departments.

Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA regulations

Support special projects as assigned by supervisor, administration, or advising staff

Required Qualifications

Current enrollment as a student at the institution; at least halftime status (6 credit hours)¿

Must be eligible for Federal Work Study eligible.

Ability to work a flexible schedule around class commitments
