Full Job Description

Manager, Quality & Food Safety

Location: Southern New Jersey / Cumberland County
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Occasional evenings and weekends as business needs require)

Position Summary

An established food manufacturer is seeking an experienced Manager, Quality & Food Safety to lead all aspects of quality assurance, food safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement for a high-volume manufacturing operation.

This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving quality systems that ensure regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to the Quality organization while partnering with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, sanitation, and other cross-functional teams to promote a strong culture of food safety and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative, hands-on leader with extensive experience managing quality systems in a GFSI-certified food manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Quality & Food Safety Leadership

Lead all Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and Quality Control functions for the manufacturing facility
Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS) and Food Safety Management System
Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, FSMA, HACCP, GMPs, and BRCGS standards, and customer quality requirements
Lead food safety programs including HACCP, Preventive Controls, Environmental Monitoring, Allergen Management, Food Defense, Food Fraud Prevention, Sanitation Programs, and Supplier Quality Programs
Ensure quality standards are consistently achieved throughout manufacturing operations

Regulatory & Compliance

Lead customer and third-party certification audits
Maintain continuous audit readiness
Oversee product specifications, labeling compliance, quality documentation, and record retention
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and industry regulations

Continuous Improvement

Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) initiatives
Analyze quality trends and KPIs to identify improvement opportunities
Develop quality dashboards and reporting tools
Partner with Operations to improve product quality, reduce waste, and strengthen manufacturing performance
Support Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement initiatives

Supplier & Customer Quality

Manage supplier qualification and performance programs
Support approval of new ingredients, packaging materials, and suppliers
Lead investigations involving customer complaints, non-conforming products, and quality concerns
Collaborate with customers to ensure quality expectations are consistently achieved

Leadership

Lead, coach, mentor, and develop the Quality organization
Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and employee development plans
Develop staffing plans, succession plans, and annual operating budgets
Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Sanitation to achieve business objectives

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline
Minimum 10 years of progressive Quality Assurance and Food Safety experience within food manufacturing
Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing quality teams.
Experience leading Quality Management Systems in GFSI-certified food manufacturing facilities
Strong knowledge of FDA regulations, FSMA Preventive Controls, HACCP, GMPs, SQF and/or BRCGS, Environmental Monitoring, Allergen Control, Supplier Quality Management, and Sanitation Validation
Experience leading customer, regulatory, and third-party certification audits
SQF Practitioner certification
HACCP certification
PCQI certification
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills

Preferred Skills & Background

Experience in frozen foods, dairy, protein, beverage, or other high-volume food manufacturing environments.
USDA-regulated manufacturing experience.
First-Party Auditor certification.
Statistical Process Control (SPC) experience.
Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
Experience with electronic Quality Management Systems (QMS).
Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement training or certification.
Experience leading quality organizations through plant expansions, new product introductions, or significant operational growth.

Leadership Responsibilities

Provide leadership and development for the facility's Quality organization, including Quality Supervisors, Quality Coordinators, Quality Technicians, Laboratory personnel, and other quality professionals as assigned.

Work Environment

This position is based within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment and requires regular presence on the production floor. Occasional off-shift, weekend, and holiday support may be required to support production, audits, customer visits, and operational needs.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
