We are seeking a compassionate, patient-centered Registered Dental Assistant for a long-term Contract role at a mission-driven community health clinic in East San Jose, CA.

We are seeking a compassionate, patient-centered Registered Dental Assistant for a long-term contract role at a mission-driven community health clinic in San Jose, CA. Location: San Jose, CA (East)
Type: Contract
Hourly Pay Rate: $33 per hour
Shift: Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with flexibility to work 10-7 once a week and occasional Saturdays.

Key Responsibilities:
The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is responsible for assisting the Dentist in patient care by discussing the patient's needs and concerns. The RDA performs duties such as: prepare the patient for treatment, assist the dentist in performing treatment to the patient in restorative dentistry or oral surgery, prepare materials and equipment for treatment and have ready for the dentist's use, take x-rays, assist the dentist in the laboratory.

Education & Experience:

A current Registered Dental Assistant License
Two years or more of experience as a Dental Assistant required
Coronal polishing certification required
California Sealant Certification preferred
X-ray license required
Knowledge of EPIC electronic Health Records System required
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software
Proficiency in verbal and written English is required
Proficiency in a Spanish is desirable.

Duties and responsibilities

Assists the dentist during a variety of examinations and treatment procedures: instrument transfer, dental procedure isolation techniques and preparation of dental materials
Records medical, dental history, vital signs and visit information in the electronic patient record (QSI)
Pours, trims and polishes study casts; fabricates custom impression trays from preliminary impressions: cleans and polishes removable appliances and fabricates temporary restorations
Takes impressions of patients teeth for study casts (models of teeth)
Perform procedures as allowed by Dental Board of California and as directed by Dentist.
Maintain a clean, sterile and cheerful environment where patients feel comfortable, prepare them treatment, and assist the doctors – thereby enabling them to provide efficient, quality dental treatment.
Obtain dental history and/or records from patient (review patient health history and care slips). Ensure that the health history is updated for all returning patients.
Escort patients to/from the front desk and introduce them to the exit clerk.
Assists patients with referrals and follow up appointments
Prepare tray setups for dental procedures, and maintain adequate supply levels in each operatory, replenishing as needed.
Complete x-rays for Adults and Pediatric patients as appropriate.
Fabricate temporary crowns and bridges.
Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment.
Instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.
Prepare materials for making impressions and restorations.
Demonstrate oral hygiene care procedure and techniques.
Perform prophylaxis on children and apply fluoride treatment.
Hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients’ mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices.
Record patient charting and all doctor notes on treatment record. Ensure the doctor signs treatment record consents and healthy history.
Clean each operatory in accordance with the American Dental Association guidelines.
Maintains strict compliance with State, Federal and other regulations, (e.g., OSHS, WC, Dental Board, HIPAA, ADA, FEHA, DOL, HR policies and practices).
