Instructs and monitors defendants on the conditions the Court has sentenced them to and/or released them under.

Observes and conducts drug and/or alcohol testing of defendants as directed by the Court to include packaging of lab specimens; testifies to results in court.

Conducts monthly reviews of defendants’ behaviors/progress and take appropriate actions.

Attends violation of probation/violation of pre-trial release hearings and prepares summary sheets for the State Attorney.

Conducts counseling sessions with probationers on matters of employment, conduct and domestic situations.

Conducts pre-sentencing investigations used to determine treatment and disposition to be imposed on offenders.

Assists as needed in preparing a variety of reports and correspondence.

Determines suitability of release plan as to residence, employment and community factors with subsequent recommendations to the court.

Counsels and refers clients to specialized treatment services available through local organizations.

Interacts with the public in an effective and courteous manner.

Must demonstrate commitment to our mission, vision, values and goals and represent the County in a professional, dignified manner at all times both in actions and appearance.

May have a role in the County’s disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts, as designated in the County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan; may be required to work before, during and/or after an emergency.

Must be able to meet minimum attendance standards; on-call 24 hours daily for community safety issues; serves as the pre-trial release officer on all holidays, weekends and days the office is closed and when the pre-trial release officer is not available. Serves as the primary backup for pre-trial release officer.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL, VISUAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
The physical requirements are that of light work and include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. The work requires some physical exertion, such as walking, standing, stooping and crouching occasionally. Requires repetitive motion of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Requires fingering to include picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Required to operate a motor vehicle to complete investigations and other required duties.
Requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures. Transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
Requires the expression or exchange of ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly. Requires perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions where conditions cannot be controlled and/or is exposed to one or more disagreeable conditions more than 50% of the work time. The worker may be exposed to drugs and bodily fluids.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of individual and group behavior; social work practices; principles and practices involved in counseling adults and juveniles; principles and practices involved in all areas of probation, pre-trial and community service programs; investigative principles and practices; business English, spelling, arithmetic and office practices and procedures; database software; internet, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software.
Required to operate a personal computer, calculator and word processing, spreadsheet and/or database programs; creative writing, public speaking, business writing; proofreading and editing.
Required to prepare accurate case reports and records; express ideas effectively both orally and in writing; effectively represent the County and the department in answering questions, responding to inquiries, providing assistance, and dealing with concerns from the public, community organizations, other County staff and other agencies; speak in a confident manner in a public forum such as court and counsel/committee meetings; establish and maintain effective working relationships with court personnel, probationers, employees and the public. Required to work with clients who may become hostile or have mental impairments. Required to work with clients regardless of ethnicity, cultural background and criminal charges.
