Job Title: Startup Attraction Manager
Organization: Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC)
Location: Milwaukee, WI (Hybrid)

Help build the next generation of high-growth companies in southeastern Wisconsin.

The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) is looking for a highly connected, results-driven startup ecosystem professional to lead the recruitment and successful relocation of high-growth startups to southeastern Wisconsin.

This is a not a traditional economic development or business development role. It's designed for someone who understands how venture-backed and innovation-driven companies grow - not just someone who enjoys networking. The successful candidate will know where to find promising startups, understand what founders need to scale, and build trusted relationships that position the Milwaukee region as the right place to launch and grow.

The Role:

As the region's primary point of contact for startup relocations, you will identify companies with high-growth potential, cultivate relationships with founders, guide them through the relocation process, and connect them to the capital, talent, workspace, customers, and strategic partners that will help them succeed in southeastern Wisconsin.

Success in this role will be measured by building a strong pipeline of startup prospects, converting interest into relocations, and helping grow the region's innovation economy.

What You’ll Do:

Startup Recruitment & Business Development

Develop and manage a pipeline of high-growth, innovation-driven startups with relocation potential.
Proactively identify and recruit founders and startup leadership teams that align with the Milwaukee region's industry strengths and growth priorities.
Build trusted relationships with entrepreneurs, venture capital firms, accelerators, incubators, university innovation programs, and entrepreneurial support organizations to generate qualified leads.
Represent MMAC and the region at startup conferences, investor events, pitch competitions, and innovation-focused gatherings.

Startup Relocation & Project Management

Serve as the single point of coordination for startup relocation projects from initial outreach through successful launch in the region.
Manage each project through every stage of the recruitment process, ensuring a seamless experience for founders and leadership teams.
Coordinate site selection, property tours, and introductions to commercial real estate partners.
Connect startups with regional resources, including investors, talent partners, universities, corporate customers, service providers, and entrepreneurial support organizations

Regional Partnership & Ecosystem Coordination

Coordinate with public- and private-sector partners to align incentives, workforce resources, financing opportunities, and available space to support startup success.
Work collaboratively with local governments, higher education institutions, economic development organizations, investors, and community partners to deliver a coordinated regional response to startup prospects.
Identify opportunities to strengthen the region's startup attraction strategy and improve the founder experience.

Marketing & Regional Promotion

Work with MMAC's communications team and regional partners to highlight startup successes and promote southeastern Wisconsin as a destination for high-growth companies.
Coordinate media opportunities and positive startup announcements, including collaboration with Milwaukee Startup News and other regional business media.
Track recruitment activity, relocation outcomes, and ecosystem engagement to measure success and inform future strategy.

What You Bring:

We're seeking someone who already understands the startup landscape and can quickly establish credibility with founders, investors, and entrepreneurial leaders.

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience working directly with startups, founders, venture capital, accelerators, incubators, technology commercialization, or innovation-focused economic development.
Demonstrated understanding of how high-growth companies scale and the factors that influence relocation and expansion decisions.
Experience developing business opportunities, managing complex projects, and building strategic partnerships.
Strong knowledge of venture financing, entrepreneurial support resources, and startup ecosystems.
Outstanding relationship-building, communication, and project management skills.
The ability to independently manage multiple recruitment opportunities while delivering an exceptional experience for startup founders.
A passion for helping innovative companies grow and strengthening the Milwaukee region's economy.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

Position Details:

Flexible schedule, with some evening and community event participation required.
Hybrid work environment, with travel as needed required.
Compensation commensurate with experience.
