CNC Operator II / Programmer
Maxton Manufacturing Company
Job Type: Full-Time, Regular Department: CNC Operations Reports To: Production Manager
About the Role
Maxton Manufacturing is looking for a skilled CNC Operator II / Programmer to join our CNC Operations team. In this hands-on role, you'll own machine setups and edits, first article inspections, tool changes and offsets, and the day-to-day adjustments that keep our CNC operation running smoothly and efficiently. You'll also program as needed and play a key part in keeping our machines productive and our parts to spec.
If you take pride in precision work, like solving problems on the floor, and want to keep growing your programming skills, we'd like to hear from you.
What You'll Do
- Set up and edit CNC machines to print specifications — mounting fixtures, components, and castings, and making the adjustments needed to run jobs exactly to spec
- Perform first article inspections and review finished parts to ensure quality and accuracy, shutting down a machine when product doesn't meet print specs until the issue is resolved
- Load and unload parts to and from fixtures, confirming the correct parts and fixtures for each job
- Inspect parts and machines regularly and keep your supervisor informed about rejected parts, scrap, and machine issues
- Program as needed and continue developing your programming skills
- Monitor the machining process continuously to maintain quality
- Keep machines properly maintained on schedule, documenting and reporting any problems or breakdowns immediately
- Keep your work area clean and organized to prevent chip build-up and coolant spills
- Follow all safety procedures, wear required PPE at all times, and flag any safety concerns to your supervisor or manager
- Keep the Production Manager informed of anything affecting production, employee relations, or the company
- Other related duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma preferred, with a minimum of 4 years of experience in a CNC horizontal milling environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proven experience performing setups and edits
- Previous success with programming and an ongoing desire to learn
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software (Creo, Pro-M), G-Code Editor, or the ability to learn
- Solid working knowledge of hand tools and machining processes
- Experience with machine shop inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Advanced math skills
- Strong computer skills
- Mechanically inclined, with good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Lathe experience is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 60 lbs
- Able to work extended hours in a standing position
- May be required to become forklift-operator certified
You'll Thrive Here If You Are
Someone with a strong sense of urgency, accuracy, and attention to detail. We're looking for a self-motivated person who follows through, communicates well (both verbally and in writing), works well with management and staff, and keeps calm under pressure. Patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor go a long way on our team. Leadership skills are a plus, and we value people who support a strong team environment.
