Job Description
Castle Building & Remodeling, Inc. is a second-generation, family-owned design/build remodeling company serving homeowners throughout the Twin Cities. Since 1977, Castle has helped thousands of clients improve their homes through thoughtful design, clear planning, quality craftsmanship, and a fixed-price remodeling process. Our design studios in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Golden Valley give clients and designers a practical, inspiring place to make selections and plan projects ranging from bathrooms and kitchens to whole-house remodels, additions, attics, basements, porches, and exterior improvements.
Position Summary
Castle is hiring a Senior Remodeling Interior Designer / Design Team Lead to strengthen our design department and help clients move confidently from initial ideas through final selections and construction-ready plans. This role is ideal for an experienced residential designer who can lead complex kitchen, bath, and whole-home design conversations; create buildable, profitable design solutions; and mentor other designers in Castle’s design/build process, drawing standards, client communication, selections process, and production handoff.
What You’ll Do
This is both a senior design role and a design leadership role. The right candidate will be trusted to handle high-value and technically complex projects while also helping raise the quality, consistency, and efficiency of Castle’s entire design team.
- Lead clients who have signed a Design & Planning Agreement through Castle’s thorough Design & Planning process, especially on kitchen, bath, addition, and whole-home remodeling projects.
· Create thoughtful, buildable, and profitable kitchen, bath, and interior design solutions that reflect client style, functionality, project scope, budget, and construction realities.
· Serve as a senior design resource for other designers, helping review layouts, selections, drawings, scopes, presentation materials, and project handoffs.
· Mentor and coach designers on client communication, design process, Chief Architect standards, material selections, scope clarity, budget awareness, and efficient project documentation.
· Help improve Castle’s design standards, templates, selections process, drawing standards, and production handoff procedures so projects are easier to price, sell, build, and manage.
· Utilize AI image generation and other design visualization tools to create images, concepts, and renderings that help clients understand options and make confident material selections.
· Prepare conceptual designs, preliminary layouts, final drawings, elevations, sections, perspectives, and construction-ready documentation.
· Use Chief Architect software to draft residential remodeling projects and communicate design intent clearly.
· Guide clients through product selections, finish selections, cabinetry, countertops, tile, fixtures, lighting, hardware, paint colors, and related interior design decisions.
· Update Excel scopes of work with selections, images, pricing, subcontractor bids, and material selections for final proposal preparation.
· Coordinate with Project Developers, Project Managers, carpenters, trade partners, and production staff to ensure designs are buildable, profitable, and aligned with client expectations.
· Prepare projects for handoff to production, including drawings, specifications, selections, notes, and key client expectations.
· Represent Castle professionally with clients, vendors, trade partners, and team members throughout the design/build process.
What We’re Looking For
- 10+ years of relevant experience in kitchen and bath design, interior design, residential remodeling, architecture, cabinetry, or a related design/build environment.
· Proven ability to lead complex kitchen, bath, and interior remodeling projects from early concept through selections, drawings, pricing support, and production handoff.
· Experience mentoring, coaching, training, or leading other designers, drafters, interns, or design support staff.
· Degree or formal training in Interior Design, Architecture, Kitchen & Bath Design, Sustainable Design, or a related field preferred.
· Strong experience designing kitchens and bathrooms; experience with older Twin Cities homes, additions, and whole-home remodels is a strong plus.
· Proficiency with Chief Architect required or strongly preferred; AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or comparable drafting/design software experience also considered.
· Strong eye for design, proportion, finish coordination, practical functionality, and constructability.
· Ability to understand budgets, selections, pricing implications, profitability, and how design decisions affect project scope and client expectations.
· Comfort working directly with homeowners and presenting design ideas clearly, confidently, and professionally.
· Strong listening, communication, organization, follow-through, and customer service skills.
· Ability to manage multiple active projects, prioritize deadlines, review others’ work constructively, and maintain accurate documentation.
· Collaborative team mindset and willingness to work closely with sales, estimating, project management, production, vendors, and leadership.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for client meetings, site visits, vendor visits, and showroom work.

· Focus on high-quality design with support from Project Developers who help generate and sell design agreements.
· Work on a variety of residential remodeling projects, especially kitchens, baths, older urban homes, additions, and whole-home remodels.
· Be part of a collaborative team that values planning, craftsmanship, customer experience, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
· Enjoy a full-time senior role with competitive pay, bonus opportunity, benefits, flexibility, and long-term growth potential.
