Full Job Description

Insurance Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, or skills required.

Position Summary

The Insurance Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in overseeing all operational aspects of the MN FAIR Plan. This position supports and supervises claims, underwriting, and administrative staff, and collaborates closely with managed services and policy management software providers.

The role requires broad knowledge of insurance operations, including claims, underwriting, administration, IT, and accounting functions. The Insurance Operations Manager also contributes to system enhancements, defect resolution, and testing initiatives to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.

This position is based in Bloomington and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring 2–3 days per week in the office.

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee the technical functions within underwriting and claims operations to ensure proper handling and disposition of applications and claims in accordance with contractual obligations, company policies, procedures, and best practices.
Partner with the Executive Director to develop, manage, and track the annual operating budget.
Ensure MN FAIR Plan operations comply with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Promote continuous training and professional development for all staff.
Attend quarterly Board of Directors and committee meetings and provide ongoing communication and reporting to Board members.
Review Plan Manuals to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance; recommend updates and revisions as necessary.
Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to identify system defects, support enhancements, and participate in testing efforts.

Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum of six (6) years of related insurance experience
Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or leadership experience
Bachelor’s degree required
CPCU designation or other relevant continuing education preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to operate as a hands-on manager in a collaborative, small-office environment
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement improvements in a timely manner
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including group presentation capabilities
Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex information and develop strategic plans
Sound judgment and decision-making abilities
Strong team leadership skills with the ability to build morale and commitment to organizational goals
Proficiency in Property & Casualty insurance systems, internet-based tools, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in a standard office environment with limited field activity

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $115,000.00 - $142,500.00 per year
