POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Asset Protection Specialist at Pot Mamas, you are the vigilant, professional guardian of our physical space, our team, and our customers. Your role is to ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment while maintaining strict compliance with Minnesota cannabis security regulations. You are not a bouncer or intimidator—you are a calm, confident presence that allows our team and customers to feel protected without feeling policed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESSECURITY & SURVEILLANCE
- Facility Monitoring: Actively monitor premises, entrances, exits, and parking areas to prevent theft, unauthorized access, and security breaches
- Surveillance Systems Management: Oversee security camera feeds, alarm systems, and access control technology; report malfunctions immediately
- Loss Prevention: Identify and deter potential theft, fraud, or suspicious activity; execute response protocols when incidents occur
- Incident Documentation: Maintain detailed, accurate incident reports for any security events, customer conflicts, or compliance issues
- Emergency Response: Act as first responder in emergencies (medical, fire, safety threats); coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed
- Cash Handling Security: Monitor and support secure cash handling procedures; ensure compliance with cash transport and vault protocols
COMPLIANCE & REGULATORY OVERSIGHT
- ID Verification Support: Assist front desk team in verifying customer identification (21+ requirement); flag fraudulent or suspicious IDs
- Access Control: Enforce restricted area policies; ensure only authorized personnel enter inventory, fulfillment, and vault areas
- Product Security: Monitor product movement, track inventory discrepancies, and report any irregularities to management
- METRC System Support: Assist with seed-to-sale tracking compliance; ensure all product movement is documented and auditable
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain current knowledge of Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management security requirements; ensure all protocols are followed
- Audit Readiness: Support internal and external compliance audits by maintaining organized security records and documentation
CUSTOMER & TEAM SAFETY
- Welcoming Presence: Greet customers warmly while maintaining professional authority; balance security with hospitality
- De-Escalation Expertise: Manage customer conflicts, disruptive behavior, or intoxicated individuals with calm, professional de-escalation techniques
- Staff Support: Provide backup support to budtenders and front desk staff during challenging customer interactions
- Safe Environment Maintenance: Conduct regular walkthroughs of retail and back-of-house areas to identify and address safety hazards
- Parking Lot & Exterior Security: Monitor exterior premises, ensure customer safety during entry/exit, and maintain visibility as a deterrent to crime
- Team Safety Training: Assist in training team members on emergency protocols, evacuation procedures, and security best practices
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
- 21+ years of age (Minnesota legal requirement)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid security license or willingness to obtain one (Minnesota Private Detective and Protective Agent Licensing Board requirements)
- Clean background check (no felony convictions; cannabis industry employment restrictions apply)
- Physical fitness — ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods; respond quickly in emergencies
- Conflict de-escalation skills — calm under pressure, skilled in verbal de-escalation and crisis management
- Strong observational skills — detail-oriented, able to identify suspicious behavior or security risks
- Professional demeanor — represent a luxury wellness brand with poise, respect, and authority
- Excellent communication skills — clear verbal and written communication for incident reporting and team coordination
- Availability: Flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays (operating hours: 10am–8pm daily; may require occasional overnight or early morning shifts for inventory or security sweeps)
Preferred:
- Previous security, law enforcement, or military experience
- Cannabis industry security experience (dispensary, cultivation, or distribution facilities)
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience with surveillance technology, alarm systems, and access control platforms
- Knowledge of Minnesota cannabis security regulations and compliance requirements
- Loss prevention or retail security background

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (up to 8+ hours)
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies (running, lifting, physical intervention if necessary)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (moving equipment, assisting in emergencies)
- Clear vision and hearing for monitoring surveillance systems and responding to alarms
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions (indoor and outdoor, all weather)
