Performs supervisory and administrative work coordinating and monitoring the Nutrition Services (NS) operation in schools to ensure maintenance of standards and policies in food safety and sanitation, food service, personnel management, program promotion, and customer service. Performs related duties as required.

Exercises technical and administrative supervision directly over the NS Supervisors, NS Assistants 2 (NSA2), and NS Assistants (NSA) or as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Two year degree in culinary arts, dietetics or a related field or two years of college course work in nutrition or a related field and three years of experience in the supervision of food preparation in a school cafeteria, restaurant or other food service environment or high school diploma or G.E.D and five years of experience in the supervision of food preparation in a school cafeteria, restaurant or other food service environment.

Must possess a valid Minnesota Class D drivers license with no suspensions or revocations within the two-year period prior to the date of appointment (suspensions for parking related offenses excluded). A reliable means of transportation is required in order to travel to multiple sites.

A Minnesota Department of Health Food Manager's Certification will be required within three months of appointment.
Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

Serve as part of the NS Leadership Team; participate in strategic planning; work with other NS staff to analyze and resolve problems; develop standard operating procedures; evaluate, improve, design, and implement processes for school operations.

Provide employee coaching, training, and evaluation on a regular basis in accordance with department policy. Monitor the performance evaluation process to ensure proper evaluation of personnel. Perform disciplinary tasks as needed. Perform related supervisory duties as required.

Manage NSAs for all district buildings and partnering sites; define work assignments and schedule staff; manage relief assignments or delegate task to designee.

Develop and manage innovative projects.
-
Review employee work restrictions and act as a liaison to Human Resources to determine workability.
-
Coordinates in the schools the presentation of products to promote sales and increase participation while maintaining a standardization of portions and costs.

Audit food production, purchasing and inventory management to ensure adherence to budget guidelines, participation goals and department expenditures.
-
Design and hosts training programs that capture best practices; food and nutrition standards; local, state and federal guidelines; regulatory requirements; program marketing; United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations and standards; personnel management; and other pertinent topics.

Maintain a current Minnesota Department of Health Food Manager Certificate and serve as a leader for each food service establishment team..

Ensures all staff are appropriately certified and/or licensed, trained, and competent to perform their duties.

Conduct regular visits of schools or other district buildings; provide support to principals, department administrators and other district staff to foster effective communication and identify solutions for success.
-
Collaborate with district leaders to support the overall common language of long term outcomes of the strategic plan.
-
Engage with students and provide a framework for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
-
Develop, implement and maintain school programs that honor students¿ perspectives.
-
Interpret and ensure the implementation of applicable laws, rules and regulations relating to proper food handling, safety and sanitation, preparation, and service. Provide tools, resources, and communication to staff to ensure expectations are met.

Monitor all production and food service areas to ensure compliance with established Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP); Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures; department procedures; local, state, and federal guidelines. Address and document all areas of noncompliance.

Respond to emergency situations (e.g. alarm monitors) on an on-call basis.

Escalate operational concerns immediately to the Nutrition Services Assistant Director.

Conduct regular meetings with staff.

Establish and share goals and objectives for the NS team; plan agendas and chair meetings; facilitate discussions of issues and opportunities at school and district buildings; interpret and report information to the NS Leadership Team.

Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
-
Oversee productivity reporting and ensure labor expenses are within budget.

Complete and submit reports as required, and makes recommendations for improvement to ensure expectations are met or exceeded.

Contribute to the District's inclusive workplace efforts by fostering a safe, welcoming and respectful environment.

May be required to work outside of normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the program.

Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule
This is a 12 month position working 40 hours per week.
Pay range for this position is: $78,361-100,179
