Job Title: Health Educator
Department: Public Health

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Public Health, the Health Educator is responsible for organizing, scheduling, developing, assessing, implementing, and evaluating health education programs designed to improve and inform county residents regarding public health issues. Prepare grant applications and reports. Serve as a liaison for the department in the community by participating on community coalitions, committees, and task forces. Promote public health programs and services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans, implements, and organizes public health programs and activities, including environment health needs. Leads implementation and evaluation of community-based prevention and cessation programs. Plans for the ongoing evaluation and needs assessment of health programs and to ensure existing program requirements are met.
- Collects and analyzes data to assist in the monitoring of community health indicators and the readiness of the population as it relates to health promotion and disease prevention programs. Evaluates the data to assist in the formulation of policies, systems, and strategies to promote health, prevent disease and protect Steele County citizens.
- Gathers information to assist the Director in preparing grants for public health programs, evaluating program outcomes, and assessing community partnerships.
- Provides reports, statistics and information for planning community needs and grantors.
- Seeks funding and grants for other community health education projects.
- Implements health promotion and disease prevention activities. Educates and informs the public and targeted audiences on a variety of public health topics.
- Develops strategic partnerships and performs various community health promotional activities.
- Coordinates and attends meetings with community members and organizations to collaborate on strategies to improve health outcomes within the community.
- Organizes and implements community projects.
- Serves as a consultant and resource for internal and external groups, organizations, citizens, and media regarding health-related issues.
- Prepares written and digital materials on public health related issues. Assists in developing marketing plans. Develops effective messaging for target audiences. Provides education and presentations to employees and the community.
- Assists and participates in emergency response plans. Serves as the public information officer. Serves as the spokesperson with the media, citizens, and organizations, as directed. Coordinates efforts with the county, local, regional, and state organizations.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.
- Keeps abreast of changing legislation, trends, policies, and developments in areas of responsibility.
Attends various state, regional and local meetings/training sessions.

Minimum Qualifications
- Requires 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health Nursing, Community Health, Public Health or closely related field.
- Minimum of 1 year previous health education or related experience.
Valid Driver’s License.
