Full Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Are you tired of working 12-hour days, six or seven days a week? Do you want to spend more time with your family and friends? Does working for a company doing a variety of different work appeal to you? If any, or all these things apply to you, this may be the position for you. We are a family owned and operated business looking for a position with someone who values a job well done. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator / Project Manager to oversee projects from initial bid through final completion for a growing excavating and demolition contractor. Projects range from small residential jobs around $1,000 to large commercial and municipal projects up to $1,000,000.

This role requires a strong understanding of excavation, demolition, grading, and construction operations. The ideal candidate can effectively estimate work, manage multiple projects, coordinate crews and subcontractors, maintain customer relationships, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating

Review plans, specifications, and bid documents.
Perform site visits and pre-bid walkthroughs.
Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
Develop proposals, budgets, and bid packages.
Track bid opportunities and maintain estimating records.
Assist ownership with project pricing strategy and scheduling.

Project Management

Manage projects from contract award through final completion.
Work with leadership on scheduling of crews, equipment, trucking, and subcontractors.
Order materials and secure necessary permits or inspections.
Maintain communication with customers, field personnel, vendors, and municipalities.
Monitor project progress, costs, production, and profitability.
Prepare and submit change orders, invoices, and project documentation.
Attend project meetings and conduct site visits as needed.
Resolve project issues quickly and professionally.

Field & Operational Support

Support superintendents and field crews with project planning and logistics.
Ensure projects comply with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
Assist with equipment and manpower planning.
Help maintain strong relationships with customers and general contractors.

Qualifications

Three Years Experience in excavation, demolition, grading, or related construction trades.
Three Years Previous estimating and/or project management experience.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and construction estimating software.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Knowledge of construction means, methods, and equipment.
Valid driver’s license required.

Preferred Skills

Experience with public and private bidding processes.
Understanding of OSHA and construction safety requirements.
Familiarity with scheduling software and GPS/machine control systems.
Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

Combination of office and field work.
Frequent visits to active construction and demolition sites.
Occasional early mornings, extended hours, or weather-related schedule adjustments may be required.
