Position Summary:
Somerby Golf Club is seeking seasonal Turfcare and Grounds Crew Attendants to join our golf course maintenance team. This position is responsible for the daily care and maintenance of the golf course and club grounds, ensuring that playing surfaces, landscaping, and facility surroundings consistently reflect the high standards of a premier private golf club.
Employees will work outdoors performing a variety of turf maintenance, equipment operation, and grounds care tasks. The ideal candidate is hardworking, dependable, and takes pride in contributing to a world-class golf environment. No prior golf course experience is required — a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn are the most important qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Mowing & Turf Maintenance
· Operate walk-behind mowers to mow greens, collars, and approaches to the precision standards required for championship-quality playing surfaces.
· Operate walk-behind and riding mowers to mow tees, fairways, roughs, and native areas according to established cutting schedules and heights.
· Operate hover mowers and specialized trimming equipment around greens, tees, bunkers, water features, and tight areas where standard mowers cannot access.
· Edge and trim turf along cart paths, borders, and landscape beds to maintain clean, crisp lines throughout the course.
· Maintain consistent mowing patterns and cutting quality on all turf surfaces to ensure a polished, uniform appearance across the entire course.
· Assist with topdressing, aerification, overseeding, and other agronomic turf programs as directed by the Superintendent.
Bunker Care & Sand Maintenance
· Rake all bunkers by hand and by mechanical bunker rake to maintain consistent sand depth, proper drainage, and a smooth, uniform playing surface.
· Edge bunker faces and perimeter turf to maintain defined, clean lines and professional appearance throughout the course.
· Monitor sand levels in all bunkers and communicate areas needing replenishment to the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
· Assist with bunker renovation projects, sand addition, and bunker repair following weather events or heavy play.
· Ensure all bunker rakes are properly placed and visible at the conclusion of each daily setup.
Course Setup & Daily Preparation
· Perform daily course setup each morning including cup cutting, hole location changes, and tee marker placement in accordance with the Superintendent’s direction and rotation schedule.
· Set up and position tee markers, distance markers, and signage accurately and consistently on all 18 holes prior to the start of play each day.
· Ensure all flagsticks are properly seated and in good condition prior to course opening.
· Blow off dew, debris, and clippings from greens, tees, and cart paths using gas-powered blowers to prepare all surfaces for morning play.
· Assist with ball washer refills, trash can servicing, and restocking of on-course amenities as part of daily setup.
· Inspect course conditions during setup and report any damage, wet areas, or safety concerns to the Superintendent immediately.
Equipment Operation & Care
· Operate a variety of golf course maintenance equipment safely and efficiently, including but not limited to walk mowers, riding mowers, fairway units, utility vehicles, sand pros, aerifiers, and spray equipment.
· Operate trimming equipment, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, and other small engine tools in a safe and effective manner.
· Perform basic pre-operation checks on all assigned equipment before each use, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and blade condition.
· Clean and return all equipment to the maintenance facility in proper condition at the end of each shift.
· Report any equipment malfunctions, damage, or maintenance needs to the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent promptly.
· Follow all equipment safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when operating machinery or handling chemicals.
Irrigation & Water Management Support
· Assist with hand watering of greens, tees, and other turf areas as directed to maintain optimal playing conditions and turf health.
· Monitor turf for signs of drought stress, disease, or pest activity and report observations to the Superintendent immediately.
· Assist with irrigation system checks, head adjustments, and minor repairs as directed by the Superintendent.
· Operate the irrigation controller or hand-held units as directed to supplement automated watering programs during dry or extreme weather conditions.
Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance
· Maintain the appearance of all clubhouse grounds, entrance areas, cart staging areas, parking lots, and landscape beds through regular mowing, trimming, edging, and cleanup.
· Plant, mulch, weed, and maintain flower beds, shrub borders, and ornamental plantings throughout the property.
· Remove debris, leaves, branches, and trash from all course and grounds areas as part of daily and seasonal cleanup operations.
· Assist with seasonal landscape projects including spring cleanup, fall leaf removal, and winterization of course and grounds features.
· Maintain walking paths, cart paths, and bridge surfaces in clean and safe condition, reporting any damage or hazards to the Superintendent.
Standards & General Responsibilities
· Be knowledgeable of and comply, at all times, with the club’s standards, policies, and regulations.
· Maintain regular attendance in compliance with the club’s scheduling requirements; early morning start times are typical and required.
· Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform while on duty.
· Maintain proper golf course etiquette at all times, including awareness of play and minimizing disruptions to members and guests during course operations.
· Work cooperatively and professionally with all members of the maintenance team, demonstrating a positive attitude and strong teamwork at all times.
· Report any safety concerns, accidents, or property damage to the Superintendent immediately.
· Perform other appropriate tasks as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine pride in delivering a high-quality golf course environment.
· Willingness to learn new tasks, equipment, and turf maintenance techniques; prior golf course experience is a plus but not required.
· Ability to operate small engine equipment and power tools safely; prior experience with mowers, trimmers, or utility vehicles preferred.
· Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and fellow crew members.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail.
· Strong teamwork skills and ability to contribute positively to a crew-oriented work environment.
· Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn proper equipment care and pre-operation inspection procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This is not a supervisory position. The Turfcare / Grounds Crew Attendant reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed entirely outdoors and is subject to all weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and early morning conditions. The position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform physical labor for extended periods, and to safely lift and carry items up to 50 pounds. Exposure to turf care chemicals, fertilizers, pesticides, and equipment exhaust is possible; proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Typical shifts begin early in the morning prior to course opening and may include weekends and holidays throughout the season.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Valid driver’s license required.
· Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
· Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
· Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
· Willingness to learn new tasks and take direction from the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.
· Substance screening is required prior to employment.
Compensation:
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Hourly wage based on experience.

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
