Full Job Description

Academic or Clinical (non-tenure) track Clinical Education faculty position for the Division of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Minnesota. Ability to consider 80-100% FTE options, 12 months, rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Based on candidate experience and preferences, this role could be Assistant Director, Co-Director, or Director of Clinical Education.

Ideal candidates will have a passion for educating the next generation of physical therapy providers and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed practices that support student success. The position requires a physical therapy degree and eligibility for Minnesota licensure. An earned DPT is required, and experience working directly with students is strongly preferred. An advanced academic doctorate is preferred, but not required. Preference will be given to applicants with prior academic experience, especially in academic advising or coaching, clinical education, student affairs, or student support. Applicants should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills; a team-based philosophy; and commitment and passion for the execution, evaluation, and ongoing improvement of clinical education processes. Candidates should be able to work effectively with students with a variety of lived experiences, learning needs, and social drivers of learning.

40-50% Clinical Education: Successful candidates will be able to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with a strong academic and clinical faculty and staff team. Key duties include educating students and clinical and academic faculty about clinical education, demonstrating and developing inclusive advising and coaching practices, course coordination, evaluating student performance in collaboration with other faculty, and selecting and coordinating clinical placements. Candidates should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, initiative and proactive problem-solving skills, and adaptability. This role blends day-to-day support for program mechanics and processes for students in clinic, as well as contributing to future strategies that maximize impactful clinical education experiences. Candidates should be able to effectively plan, initiate, administer, assess, and document clinical education programs.

10%-20% Service: All faculty contribute to committee and professional service, faculty governance of the DPT program, as well as the Department, Medical School, and University. Experienced faculty are expected to provide mentorship to junior faculty and provide leadership within the broader University.

5-10% Scholarship: The faculty member will contribute to the scholarly mission of the Division through an active commitment to excellence in a defined area of scholarship. Faculty are expected to have a defined scholarly agenda in their selected area of expertise.

This role may be shaped to accommodate active clinical practice.

Other duties as assigned. Candidates may also contribute to direct teaching and student mentoring in their areas of expertise, or where program needs exist (10-20%).

The Division of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Minnesota is an academic unit with 21 core faculty lines, numerous associated faculty, and an 85-year history within the School of Medicine. Degree programs include a DPT and DPT/PhD joint degree. The Division, integrated with the Rehabilitation Science program, also offers a PhD/MS and houses an accredited Geriatric Clinical Residency, as well as collaborations with other advanced physical therapy residencies and fellowships.
