Job Overview
The CMM Programmer/Metrology/Lead Inspector plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of all dimensional inspection systems and measurement equipment used throughout the manufacturing process. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining robust metrology systems, supporting inspection and validation activities, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve measurement methods and quality control processes in contract component manufacturing environment.

Duties

Train Quality Inspectors and Technicians in proper inspection and measurement techniques and use of metrology equipment.
Organization subject matter expert on GD&T responsible for training and deployment
Provide technical support to Inspection and Quality teams for complex measurement challenges or nonconforming product evaluations.
Develop and validate dimensional measurement programs using CMM, vision systems, and other metrology tools to support production and inspection activities.
Create inspection documentation and acceptance criteria based on customer requirements, engineering drawings, and regulatory standards.
Design and implement measurement methods and fixtures that improve efficiency and accuracy in inspection processes.
Design and execute measurement system analysis and Gage R&R studies to support internal and external validation requirements.
Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis related to measurement discrepancies or quality escapes.
Interface with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to support new product introductions, process validations, and continuous improvement efforts.
Own the calibration and maintenance system for all measurement and inspection equipment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal procedures and external standards (ISO 13485, FDA, etc.).
Review and approve incoming metrology-related documentation such as calibration records, equipment specifications, and verification reports.
Support internal and external audits by ensuring traceability and documentation of inspection systems.
Participate in risk analysis, change control, and corrective action processes related to measurement and inspection systems.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metrology, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
5+ years of metrology experience in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably medical device or aerospace.
Strong knowledge of GD&T, measurement principles, and best practices for dimensional inspection.
Experience creating inspection documentation and acceptance criteria per customer specifications and quality standards.
Proficiency with CMM programming (e.g., Mitutoyo/M-Cosmos) and vision inspection systems (e.g., Micro-Vu).
Experience conducting Gage R&R.
Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA and other regulatory requirements related to measurement and calibration.
Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable working in MRP/ERP and QMS systems.
Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to train and mentor others effectively.
Detail-oriented and driven to improve accuracy, repeatability, and reliability of inspection processes.
