Assistant Program Director Job Description

Summary: The Assistant Program Director supports, coordinates, and oversees the effective delivery of the Money Follows the Person (MFP) and Transition and Diversion Program (TDP). This role includes direct service responsibilities, supervision of all full-time MFP/TDP staff, program compliance, and training. The Assistant Program Director also takes an active role in achieving organizational strategic goals and participates in organizational storytelling efforts to highlight the impact of Independence, Inc. The Assistant Program Director reports directly to the Program Director and collaborates with the Executive Director and other key stakeholders.

Status: Full-Time/Exempt

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the Program Director to oversee the execution of services under the MFP and TDP programs.
Provide direct services including transition coordination, diversion support, housing facilitation, and development of person-centered plans.
Coordinate and facilitate service implementation to ensure successful transitions to community-based living.
Supervise all full-time staff assigned to the MFP and TDP programs, offering mentorship, guidance, and support.
Serve as the primary backup for staffing gaps within MFP/TDP, including assuming caseloads or duties during vacancies or absences.
Implement and maintain quality assurance processes to ensure services meet regulatory standards, policies, and best practices.
Conduct audits, reviews, and assessments to identify areas of improvement and support continuous program enhancement.
Assist in the development, delivery, and evaluation of training for MFP/TDP staff.
Identify training needs and collaborate with training facilitators to strengthen staff competency.
Foster a collaborative and empowering work environment by supporting staff with problem-solving and day-to-day guidance.
Take an active role in helping the organization achieve its strategic goals.
Participate in organizational storytelling by working with staff and consumers to share the impact of independence, community living, and program outcomes.
In the absence of the Program Director, temporarily assist other program staff as needed.

Qualifications:

Commitment to the mission and values of Independence, Inc.
Lived experience with disability is preferred but not required.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent related experience.
Experience in program management or disability services, especially in transition coordination or independent living.
Strong knowledge of disability rights, Independent Living philosophy, and relevant laws and regulations.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to supervise, guide, and motivate staff.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships.
Strong organizational and project management abilities, including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Experience with data management, evaluation, and accurate documentation practices.

This position required a majority of the workplace spent sitting with some standing and walking performed. Weights of objects lifted, carried, pushed or pulled rarely exceed 24 pounds. Movements such as climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, twisting, bending, reaching, handling, fingering, and filing are sometimes required. Use of the hands, wrists, and finders is sometimes required. Audio, visual, and verbal functions are vital aspects to performing this position. The majority of the workday is spent indoors with limited exposure to outdoor elements such as dust, flumes, noise and glare.

Remote Work Statement:

This position primarily operates within the organization's physical office, with limited opportunities for remote work.
