Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are searching for a skilled Body Shop Painter/Technician to join the Whiteford team at our South Bend branch. Our body shop specializes in HD truck collision repairs and custom work. The primary responsibilities for this role are preparing surfaces on heavy and medium duty trucks for painting and applying Axalta transportation refinish products, and repairing, replacing, and upgrading truck exteriors.

Responsibilities

Clean, sand, and mask surfaces to prepare for painting
Apply primers and finish coats using lacquers and synthetic paints and enamels
Apply decals, seals, and trim
Rub, polish, and wax finish coats
Glass replacement
Identify and resolve body work required to prepare trucks for painting (e.g., sheet metal repairs, fiberglass/panel repairs, fabrication and structural welding, installation and alignment of truck cab body components, electrical and mechanical repairs, etc.)
Review repair orders accurately
Follow warranty processes and notify supervisor of repair add-ons
Advise body shop estimator of additional damage or supplemental needs and when repair lead times change
Teardown and inspect truck for hidden or additional repairs
Remove and install truck accessories
Perform repairs with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standards
Maintain PACCAR and Axalta required certifications
Maintain technical skills including truck manufacturer's repair process
Other duties or tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Heavy and medium duty truck, automotive, machinery, or related field professional painting experience required
Prior experience with Axalta Transportation Refinish Products preferred but not required, Axalta certified training available
Strong knowledge of processes, techniques, methods, materials, equipment, and safe work practices used in painting trucking or automotive equipment
Ability to follow written and oral instructions
Welding, suspension, and framework experience a plus
Knowledge of mechanical and electrical components; damage analysis and estimating; and non-structural analysis and damage repair
An eagerness to learn and continuously improve
Valid driver's license and able to meet company insurability requirements
Pay based on experience
