Full Job Description

The Nursing Instructor is responsible for the effective communication of course related information to students, utilizing diverse, participative instructional strategies. Must adhere to the standardized curriculum and lesson plans, inspire and motivate students by effective role modeling. Be sensitive to student needs and able to identify appropriate resources to support student successes and achievement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare and plan for effective classroom, laboratory or clinical instruction.
Ensure that lesson plans and presentation strategies are well prepared, the learning environment is optimal, and the instructional materials are in proper working order.
Follow the standardized curriculum, focusing on the unit objectives or laboratory proficiencies.
Communicate appropriately with the Director of Nursing regarding curriculum and lesson plans.

Demonstrate appropriate presentation/speaking skills including the introduction of a wide variety of instructional strategies.
Encourage active student participation.
Demonstrate appropriate use of written, audiovisual and other instructional aids.
Utilize diverse questioning strategies to determine depth and range of student understanding.
Ensure that the learning environment is maintained in a neat and orderly manner, and that all equipment is cleaned and returned to its appropriate storage position following use.

Maintain administrative records in a well-organized, accurate and timely manner, including attendance, academic proficiency evaluations, curriculum, etc.
Comply with all the school policies and strictly enforce them in an unbiased manner as stated in the school catalog or as otherwise determined by administration.
Attend and actively participates in school functions, including but not limited to receptions, open houses, graduations, faculty meetings, in-service sessions, advisory committee meetings, etc.
Perform substitute instruction or other education-related assignments when required by the Director of Nursing.
Identify, counsel and remediate students with behavioral deficiencies, (i.e., cognitive, affection and psychomotor).

Understand the importance of an active and comprehensive student retention program.
Recognize potential at-risk students.
Actively provide support or refer the student to the appropriate staff member for assistance.
Show proficiency in instructional methodology and techniques, curriculum development, supervision, management, instruction, evaluation, and counseling.
Keep professional credentials, licensure and knowledge current, by attending continuing education and professional development activities.

Certifications and Licenses:

Current nursing license in the state of California.

Minimum of 2 years nursing experience for Registered Nurses with a Bachelor’s Degree or; or minimum of 1-year teaching experience in an approved college of nursing within the past 5 years

Minimum of 6 years nursing experience for Registered Nurses with an Associate’s Degree or; or minimum of 1-year teaching experience in an approved college of nursing within the past 5 years

Minimum of 2 years nursing experience for Licensed Vocational Nurses with a Bachelor’s Degree or; or minimum of 1-year teaching experience in an approved college of nursing within the past 5 years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California.

Teaching certification
CPR card for health care providers

Pay: From $40.00 per hour
