COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated dynamic Communications Specialist to manage the City's public information and digital presence. This position is responsible for creating, posting, and monitoring engaging content across multiple social media platforms-including Facebook, Instagram, and X-to keep the public informed of city activities, calendar events, and service interruptions. Beyond digital content creation, the role involves visiting city project sites, taking photos, and drafting press releases. Additionally, the communications specialist will field media and public inquiries, manage the department phone line, and conduct research to develop speeches and talking points for leadership. The Communications Specialist position earns competitive pay of $ 18.95/hr. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

As a Communications Specialist, you spend your day using a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgement and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization. On a daily basis you will use your customer service and public relations skills. Your work will require knowledge of English language usage and the terminology used by various news media, and accepted practices of news gathering, writing, and reporting. Must have strong writing skills, ability to compose written material and disseminate public relations information for release to the media. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance, and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with public skills in public relations, video and phone camera, social media tools, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Required Education: Associate's degree.
- Education Preference: Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication or related fields.
- Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
Required Work Experience: Experience in communications/marketing field.
- Experience Preference: Two (2) years' experience in related field.
Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
