ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Installs, maintains and repairs district fire alarm systems, security (Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)), IP phone and voicemail systems, video surveillance systems, lockdown systems and all key management systems
· Interprets blueprints
· Acts as a self-starter to work well without supervision
· Works effectively with staff and students in a cordial, understanding and helpful manner
· Works in an environment where a change in work schedule is often dictated by the needs of educational programs, rather than the planned security/communications project
· Maintains competency in programming and installing fire alarm systems, security systems, voice IP phone, lockdown systems and voice mail systems
· Maintains competency in utilizing computer communication equipment and network communication software for MCPS phones, voicemail, fire alarm systems, lockdown systems and security cameras.
· Assists with material and equipment procurement and inventory
· Assumes responsibility for general security of buildings and equipment
· Reviews district premises weekly for safety standards pertaining to staff, students and the public
· Coordinates on-call security staff
· Interfaces the district’s security needs with other maintenance staff to ensure a coordinated and efficient operation
· Assists with the planning and implementation of preventative maintenance programs related to the various security & communication systems in the district
· Keeps staff informed of changes in the fire protection field
· Works closely with and interacts positively with other staff to ensure compatibility and scheduling of services and projects
· Arrives at work on time and leaves at the end of the shift, carrying out tasks within assigned time frame
· Maintains cooperative and professional relationships with staff and supervisors contacted during the workday
· Communicates effectively with those contacted during the workday
· Occasionally respond to security needs across the district after normal working hours
· Other related duties may be assigned by the Director of Operations & Maintenance
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Valid Montana driver’s license
· Competency in programming, installing and maintaining fire alarm systems, security systems, voice IP phone systems and MCPS phone & voicemail systems
· Competency in utilizing computer communication equipment and network communication software for MCPS phones, voicemail and fire alarm systems
· Valid Montana Fire Alarm System endorsement/certification through NICET, equal national certification or factory certification on applicable MCPS systems
· Knowledge in key control systems and cutting keys for district access
· Experience with Microsoft Office for ordering supplies, recording system information and file management preferred
· Demonstrated ability to install, operate, maintain and repair low volt security systems and equipment
· Ability to work in stressful situations with law enforcement and emergency services
· Ability to manage fire, security and communication tasks
· Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
· Ability to explain, in person or via telephone, details regarding fire, security or phone procedures
· Demonstrated problem solving skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ~ continued
· Working knowledge of safety regulations and occupational hazards of the trade
· Ability to work from ladders and lifts.
· Demonstrated ability to lift loads up to 50 pounds. Certification of good health, including a back evaluation and physical examination upon request
· Knowledge of and ability to use and maintain all tools, materials and equipment associated with security and communications
· Ability to effectively plan and organize assignments
· Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities
· Ability to work effectively without close supervision
· Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of the workday
· Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities
· Other qualifications as deemed necessary by the Director of Operations & Maintenance
