Job Summary - Why you’ll love this position

Job Location: Central Office, 105 W Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City Missouri

Why you’ll love this position: The governmental relations specialist performs routine entry-level liaison activities between the department and public officials through the exchange of information regarding proposed legislation affecting the department. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

This opening is for one of our CAREER-LADDER positions which offers the opportunity for career advancement without having to participate in the competitive selection interview process. As you continue to learn, acquire new skills, and gain experience, you can be promoted to a higher-level position. This position may be filled at one of the three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry-level salary is posted above, with the intermediate starting salary of $56, 712.48, and the senior starting salary of $61, 249.44.

Note for internal applicants: Successful candidates already at rates above the posted salary will be evaluated on an individual basis to determine final salary outcome.

Responsibilities - What you’ll do

Attends legislative committee hearings and floor debates to obtain information related to bills.
Conducts research related to proposed legislation and its potential impact on the department.
Assists in preparing impact statements for the department's legislative committee for presentation to legislators on how bills affect the department; explains the department's position on legislation.
Prepares status reports and summaries of bills for the department's legislative committee; updates information on content of bills as amendments are made.
Reviews the Missouri and Federal Registers for regulations with potential impact on department operations.

Qualifications - All you need for success

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree: Political Science, Public Administration, or related field,

OR Four years of experience in positions providing exposure to governmental and legislative processes, public policy, or public related activities.

Special Working Conditions:

Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel
Long working hours are at times required during the annual legislative sessions (January through May) with flexibility during the interim and occasional overtime will be necessary.
