Schedule: Full-Time, Primarily Night Shift
Christian Hospital is seeking an experienced and collaborative Laboratory Supervisor II - Phlebotomy (Night Shift) to oversee the day-to-day operations of our inpatient phlebotomy and specimen processing teams during off-shift hours. This leadership position plays a critical role in ensuring efficient workflow, exceptional patient service, quality outcomes, and operational excellence across laboratory support services.
The ideal candidate is a strong team player with extensive phlebotomy and specimen processing experience, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for problem-solving and process improvement.
- Supervise and manage daily operations of the inpatient phlebotomy team during night shift hours.
- Provide leadership and support for specimen processing and laboratory support functions.
- Create, maintain, and adjust staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and operational efficiency.
- Monitor workflow, productivity, quality indicators, and departmental performance metrics.
- Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies and procedures.
- Document performance, coaching, corrective actions, and employee development activities as needed.
- Foster positive relationships and teamwork among staff, laboratory leadership, and clinical partners.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead problem-solving initiatives.
- Support departmental operational goals, quality standards, regulatory compliance, and customer service expectations.
- Perform additional administrative and supervisory duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a physical science, life science, or related field.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory support operations, specimen handling, and quality standards.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a laboratory or healthcare environment.
- Advanced knowledge of specimen processing workflows and laboratory operations.
- Experience with staff scheduling, policy development, and performance management.
- Full-time position with a primary focus on night shift operations.
- Exact hours are flexible but will be scheduled during overnight hours.
- Some weekend, evening, and limited day-shift coverage may be required based on departmental and operational needs.

Role Purpose
Responsible for managing daily operations (equipment, systems, workflow, service levels, procedures) and staff (first level supervision, scheduling, coaching staff development, etc) within regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
- Supervises laboratory activities and ensures par levels of supplies are maintained and procedures are performed promptly, accurately, and precisely according to department and hospital policies and procedures.
- Keeps abreast of new developments, techniques and procedures on equipment, tests, and methods as well as other information relating to the laboratory and writes and / or updates procedures for assigned areas as necessary.
- Schedules staff and assign work to ensure that laboratory procedures are performed promptly proficiently, and accurately. (When necessary the supervisor is expected to perform tasks routinely assigned to direct reports.)
- Establishes systems and processes to streamline tasks and eliminate waste. Takes responsibility for the daily operations, both technically and administratively to ensure quality services.
- Participates in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
- Responsible for monitoring laboratory business functions such as outreach services (client response, onsite/offsite patient service centers, etc), registrations, laboratory test billing, or send out test referral. May ensure the correct hardware and IT applications are present for staff to perform job functions and participates in the validation of new software applications.
